Why are laptop (or notebook) computers so very hard to move the pointer (arrow) on the screen?

With a desktop you have a mouse which makes it so easy to move the pointer around the screen. Whereas with a laptop it is VERY DIFFICULT to move the pointer using their little flattened box area. Am I missing something here? I don't own a laptop so maybe I'm doing something wrong with the display models at Best Buy or Circuit City. It just makes no sense to me why moving the arrow around is like some type of complex game?

There are basically 2 pointing systems , the touchpad and the one that ibm uses (commonly described as the clitoris LOL)

its like anything else , you have to get used to it, I have used laptops with touchpads for the last 5 years and its piece of cake

you can always plug an external mouse to the laptop
