20 years since a team up 2-1 lost the Finals, and that was the Celtics over the Lakers.
If it gets to 3-1, say goodnight. Lakers will expend all they have left on Sunday and ESPECIALLY if they fall short, they are back to one day off, realizing that for the fourth game in a row they are simply inferior at THIS point in THIS season with THESE injuries. Larry Brown is entitled to ONE ring for sure, and with the Kobe situation the league probably prefers a class group as the Pistons appear to be. AS WELL, given that we don't know who will remain on LA next year, their time for championships may be done for awhile. The Pistons will provide hope for the East, which the league needs. Elite college programs can rejoice as players from North Carolina, Kentucky, Connecticutt and Oklahoma are amongst this year's champions' starting five.
HOWEVER, the league is cringing with this degree of defense ruling the day. More rule changes in the offing...a wider court?...six seconds to get the ball upcourt?...20 second shot-clock? ...any team which wins with less than 80 points is awarded a special HALF-LOSS, while any team losing with less than 70 is awarded an extra loss? OK, that sounded goofy as hell, but clearly two or three changes are required for more entertainment. I know part of the problem is the lack of mid-range shooters emerging from college, but how can you change that?
