Doug Hamilton, the president and general manager of the Los Angeles Galaxy, died while on a TACA airlines flight on Thursday evening after it left Costa Rica, where the Galaxy had played Saprissa in a CONCACAF Champions Cup game on Wednesday.

TACA spokeswoman Sofia Valverde told the Associated Press that Hamilton appeared to have symptons similar to a heart attack and the crew tried to resuscitate him before the pilot returned the plane to Costa Rica.
A two-time MLS Executive of the Year, Hamilton joined the Galaxy in 2002. He had served as the Miami Fusion general manager in 2000-01 after six years at adidas USA. Hamilton was 44. He is survived by his wife, Paige, and a 5-year-old son, Aedan.
