MVP vote has nothing to do with who is the best player in the league.

In sports, a Most Valuable Player (MVP) award is an honor typically bestowed upon the best performing player or players on a specific team, in an entire league, or for a particular contest or series of contests. Initially used in professional sports, the term is now also commonly used in amateur sports, as well as in other completely unrelated fields of endeavor such as business and music awards.

Yawn. Even if you want to make the lame-ass argument that
Nash shouldn't have won the MVP awards those years
, at least
the voting showed there was some dissenting opinions againt
Nash's getting voted in.

So, your lame-ass argument actually proves my point.

Let's re-look at the MVP voting for 2009.

#1 place votes for LeBron = 109
#1 place votes for Kobe = 2

Kobe got ALMOST NO VOTES for first place. Are you fucking thick
in the head?

Kobe didn't even get the 3 first place votes from his own team market!

"The news media voting block consists of 123 voters (three from each team market, plus 33 nationally) who will mark their top five choices. Ballots, sent two days ago, are due April 16, the day after the regular season concludes."

You clearly have no clue

The point of me brining the nash vote is - JUST BECAUSE HE WAS VOTED MVP DOESN'T MEAN HE IS THE BEST PLAYER IN THE NBA

YES even if they get all the first place votes.. it dont mean squat

Oh really, so there is no statistical correlation there huh?

Not when kobe numbers destroyed nash's and lost... Sorry a few years ago Kobe was #'s were absurd and he took a team starting Smush parker and Kwame brown to the playoffs in a tough west.

Yet Nash won back to back MVP's while being a doormat on D and not winning shit. Now Kobes numbers are down b/c he passes more and wins more.

just imo my man. We can argue back and forth all day. kind of pointless b/c there is no way to change each others mind.

LAL kicked the shit out of Clev twice this year on the road and at home.

BWAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHHA

LeBron gets 109 first place votes to Kobe's 2, but it doesn't mean
squat?

I rest my case, your so blinded by your sycophantic drooling over
your idol you can't even think straight.

You're not even being rational. A reasonable person would say that
one would have to take into consideration the fact that Kobe
didn't even get first place votes FROM HIS OWN MEDIA MARKET and
the fact that out of all the sports writers, Kobe only got
2 first place votes.

So you're saying that Kobe was a better player the LeBron this year?

Fine, you have your right to that opinion, and I can respect that - if that's
what you believe.

What I laugh my ass off at is asinine statements from KobeFan when
he says that the MVP voters "don't mean squat."

Or asinine statements from the previous poster that said Kobe is
the #2 player OF ALL TIME behind Jordan, and that is the
end of discussion? How fucking stupid is that?

Well 1 thing I think is that the east is not very good. Boston, Orlando, and clev. Beyond that it sucks... That and the fact that Clev lacks the talent of LAL leads to inflated numbers and wins.

So IMO LBJ plays against weaker teams and dominates the ball more. Puts up big numbers and gets wins against lesser oppenents.

We both know that Kobe can put up much better numbers then he did this year but he has learned to trust his teamates and pass more. This has lead to more wins...

Both are great players.

Lebron hasnt done enough in his career to be considered on par with Kobe or Jordan. One day he'll probably get there. Kobe's body of work over his career is better, Jordan's body of work is second to none.

Its ok FZ if people dont agree with you. You dont have to go Doc Mercer and have a meltdown posting like a crazy person.

I'd post the words "End of Discussion" again but I'm afraid your head will expolde with rage.

Lets just leave it at this. I feel that Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player ever and Kobe is a close second. You are entitled to your opinion but any stats or cute little videos you choose to post will not change my mind.

End of post :toast:

Um... I'm not even necessarily comparing Kobe and LeBron.

The guy said Kobe was #2 ALL TIME, second to MJ.

It shows an AMAZING lack of knowledge of basketball history. He's
sweeping aside (while saying discussion over):

Bill Russell
Larry Bird
Magic Johnson
Kareem Abdul Jabbar
Wilt Chamberlain

and on and on

All great players, amongst the greatest ever. I'd rank them

1- Jordan
1a-Kobe
2- Magic
3- Wilt Chamberlin
4- Larry Bird
5- Bill Russell
6- Kareem

Hopefully FZ isnt offended by my asinine rankings

I don't have a problem with people disagreeing with me, I
just wish there was a bit more rational discussion instead of
asinine statements like the one you made.

You can keep trying to buttress your argument, slandering
me by your Doc Mercer and crazy-man references, but I don't
think it helps your case.

At least you admit that stats won't sway your opinion. ROFL.

Kobe is nothing more than a volume shooter. Whoop-de-shit. I'm of the opinion that if Nash shot as often as Kobe did he would score 30+ per game. There are five to ten players I would take before Kobe and wouldn't think twice about it (no, Nash isn't one of them).
Fact is he's never won shit without Shaq and likely never will.

Not at all...

I've said it before, and it bears repeating. I enjoy ranking players,
and talking about "best ever," but ultimately it's really hard to compare
players from different eras.

5-10 players over Kobe right now?

BTW, Nash was horrible player on the other side of the ball.

not worth the argument it will cause.

Lets put it this way. We are in an era where there are several great players in the prime of their careers. Its a good time to be a baseketball fan, regardless of what team you support

LMAO your so biased you cant even read straight

1) No where in this thread did I even mention anything about Kobe being better than Lebron

2) My point is that "best player in the NBA" is opininated and winning the MVP doesnt prove shit

Careful putting Magic that high. There are some foolish people here who will say that absolutely must be incorrect without giving any reason or being open to any sort of discussion

Other than Bryant, the list looks near perfect. Reason why Bryant doesn't belong is he was never even the best player on a team that won a championship and only once was the best player on a team that even went to the Finals. O'Neal was always the best player on the floor when the Lakers were winning there championships (and even when they were losing to the Pistons). Then 05-07 were some pretty dark days for LA. While the West has been tough, there is mo way any team with Jordan, Johnson or Chamberlain in their prime would have struggled as much as the Lakers did those years

As far as this generation is concerned, it seems some people even forget how good Duncan was in the first half of this decade. Though Bryant is a lot better now, without being able to step back and see the entire picture, it can sometimes be hard to rate players in their own time

Kobe may have deserved the MVP in 2006 and 07. But Lebron may have deserved it in 2008. All three years it was very close. Unlike when Jordan was playing

Yes, right now. If I was starting a franchise and could pick any one player there are roughly five to ten I'd take before him.
I completely agree with you regarding Nash' defensive woes. That was not part of my argument.

Makes sense since most would not want to pick a player who has been in the league +10 years...

If age was not a factor, Kobe gets picked #1 or #2 by most of the GM's in the league.
