Kerry's Wife a 'Benedict Arnold CEO'?

One of Sen. John Kerry's favorite stump speech tag lines these days is a blast at "Benedict Arnold CEOs [who] send American jobs overseas."

But he never quite gets around to mentioning his wife's connection to the Heinz Foods empire, which seems to be leading the pack in exporting jobs from America into the Third World.

Reporting for Tech Central Station, James Glassman revealed Wednesday, "The Kerry family business, H.J. Heinz Co. of Pittsburgh, operates 22 factories in the United States and 57 in foreign countries."

A quick check of the Heinz corporate Web site seems to confirm the fact that the Democratic presidential front-runner's family fortune derives from one of America's worst corporate traitors, at least according to the way Kerry defines the term.

Under World Locations, the Heinz Corp. Web site lists plants throughout the Third World, including the Middle East, Africa, Southern Africa, the Pacific Rim and Asia.

The company once owned by Mrs. Heinz Kerry's late husband seems to particularly favor the employee pool in Asia, where workers come dirt cheap and slave labor is not unknown.

Here are just a few of the locations where the corporate bucaneers who keep the prospective first couple living in such high style have their Third World workers toiling overtime:

The guy is a hypocrit and any reasonable person would see that. You may not like Bush but atleast he has a backbone and stands up for what he belives.

Kerry blasts companies but takes donations

WASHINGTON, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- U.S. Democratic presidential front-runner John Kerry has accepted donations from firms he brands "Benedict Arnolds" for overseas job shifts, a report says.

The Massachusetts senator frequently uses the name of the notorious American Revolution traitor to describe companies and chief executives who move jobs and operations overseas to avoid paying U.S. taxes, the Washington Post said Thursday.

But, a review of his donor records shows Kerry has accepted more than $140,000 in campaign contributions from top executives at companies that fit the description.

Additionally, the report says, two of Kerry's top fundraisers, raising more than $400,000 for the candidate, helped set up companies in the world's best-known offshore tax havens.

Kerry's Democratic opponent, North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, whose campaign gets most of its money from trial lawyers, has not described these companies in such harsh terms and has received less from them, Federal Election Commission records show.

It's OK to rip on Bush for exporting jobs but no a problem for Kerry's wife to export them.

I read it and I rolled my eyes, but not in surprise albeit. I hope Bushs' boys hit Kerry real hard on this - but they probably won't. Bush has got to start getting aggressive now, bnot that he has any chance of losing the election, but he has to expose the weasels so they wither away with their tails between their legs.

Who would have thought that Bush would run such a passive campaign up to this point? Kind of reminds me of the campaign Dole ran against the cigar stroker.

Kman,

I do not like Kerry. I don't necessarily support him but the object in business is to make money. They can make soy sauce, banana ketchup or mayo in the US and ship it to those other countries but the shipping price would be enormous. I am unsure if they make it there and ship it here. I honestly don't know. That is what should piss you off if that was the case. They have other customers beside the US and it makes fiscal sense to make the products near the general area where it's being sold because more often than not that's the cheapest way to get it to market.
