Pete Maravich is rolling over in his grave. The Tigers had very little scoring punch last year, finishing No. 89 on Ken Pomeroy’s offensive efficiency charts and No. 6 on defense, while operating at a medium pace that drove the Under to a 19-12 record on the season. Will that change much under new head coach Matt McMahon? Probably, but we do know his Murray State teams tended to move the ball more slowly – aside from the peak Ja Morant years, that is.
Kansas City are also in their first year under Marvin Menzies. Their defense/offense split was similar to LSU’s last year, but far worse on both sides of the ball, and at a much slower pace. Menzies’ UNLV teams were all over the map style-wise, so we’ll see what he has in store for us this year.
