Yeah, Clearlake, California, Northern California North of SF and Sacramento at the Southern Tip of Mendocino National Forest. Appears that he was coming in from Fishing, he may have been in a Rowboat or at the least a motorless boat it was dark and a "Cabin Cruiser"(?)like boat with a motor ran into Johnny's boat. His brother Dorsey died of a Heart Attack in 1979 and may have been just 47 or so years old. Seems Dorsey, following Johnny's death took to drinking very heavy and also using drugs so that may have contributed.
Buddy Holly died 5 Years before Johnny, in 1959 and also in Clear Lake but....Clear Lake, Iowa. Plane Crash of course that also killed Richie Valens at just 17 Years Old and also The Big Bopper J.P. Richardson at 28 Years Old. Buddy was just 22 Years Old.
Waylon Jennings was supposed to be on that plane, he played in Buddy Holly's band but he gave up his seat to The Big Bopper who was very sick cuz they'd all got stuck in 25 Below Winter on a Frozen Up Bus the night before. Thats why Buddy ordered that plane. he didn't want to ride on a bus again that night.
Buddy had left his Texas band The Crickets for that solo career that had him wind up on that fatal tour through the dead of winter and a young singer named David Box took over singing duties in The Crickets after Buddy left but then David Box also died in a plane crash. At just 21 Years Old.
