Just a ?? About gold, silver or other!!!

I don't know what I'm talking here but maybe someone here with knowledge could help if possible....I just would like an opinion from anyone if worth investing in??? I would just lock up and put away probably and never see again.....One day I'd like my Son to look in the safe and find different little treasures when Dad is gone......My father was a big stock person but not me....I have some cash I can invest as I think cash sitting is risky......I'm just trying to get opinions and may forget to come back but would be appreciated
