Scholars of US constitutional law, including the ACLU, warn us that our hard-earned freedoms should not be sacrificed at the altar of security, i.e. the US Patriot Act.
This act, as grand as the name sounds, was too quickly passed by a well-intended Congress after 9/11. It poses serious concerns about our civil liberties by expanding the governments power to do such things as access our financial, medical and even library records; wire-tap without judicial oversight; and use secret warrants (bypassing the Fourth Amendment) to spy on anyone surfing the Web.
We can have a fair measure of security without a Big Brother government if we courageously and creatively balance our protective laws and programs with our constitutional rights.
Junior and his gang of neocon, draft-dodger, chickenhawks know that fear is a mighty force. Dare we let it soften and cower us into letting go of what so many before us worked so hard and risked so much to attain and defend?

Lt. Dan
