This won't last. There will be a buyout and Gruden will end up rejoining his former partner Mike Tirico on NBC Sunday Night Football. It is NBC's dream scenario. Tirico will be replacing Al in the next couple of years. He will be paired with Collingsworth. As soon as the Gruden-Davis marriage sours Jon will be heading back to TV. Jon and Mike are still young and will be NBC's team for the next 10-15 years. One of the reasons Gruden is leaving ESPN is his unhappiness with Sean McDonough. Jon was really close with Mike Tirico was really sad to see him leave ESPN for NBC. There was no way this change could have happened now. ESPN had a clause that he could only break contract for head coaching job. I'll bet there was also a clause that he couldn't join another TV crew for at least 2 or 3 years. That is perfect for all parties. Collingsworth is 58, Gruden is 55, Tirico is 51. After 4 years Gruden realizes he doesn't want the stress of the NFL and returns to broadcasting. He would only be 59. You give Jon the great match-ups that NBC has and he would be in heaven. He was stuck with some real stinkers on ESPN. Plus he would have the chance to do 3 or 4 Super Bowls. They could even keep Chris around and have a three man booth but I think the cost would be prohibitive. I don't think Chris would mind leaving once Al retires.
