All you have to do is get stiffed once and you stop playing at shit books. At least that worked for me.

My case is similar to acw. At first I was naive, trusting what I believe about human nature, thinking my only risk was that the book goes bankrupt. I've had accounts at about 10 shlt books and I got stiffed at 3. At the others I have cashed out in full and have not gone back. The bonuses and soft lines I got at the others probably makes it an overall wash, minus the headaches.

Now I'm more experienced so my days with shlt books are behind me now. I know how to find out which are the good ones and the others can offer bonuses till the cows come home and to them I will forever just say NO!

Do you guys put Rio and their 1/2 point promo in the same risk category?

I clicked the 'about Rio' page on their site to see if they we're affilitated with the Vegas Rio and only found a story about how they treat clients better than the other books, etc.

I've been with Sportsbook.com a couple years but am hunting for others in order to shop lines.

I'm a square who's had his edges rounded some over the years and found this site only last wweek...been enjoying it.

Thanks for any help.

I consider who you put your money with a gamble, just as much as the bets you place. As long as you keep a small portion of your bankroll at what I would consider high risk shops, the returns can out way the risks. On the other hand, if you are only going to play at a couple books make sure the majority of your cash is at a "less risky book". I think this is very important if you don't play a lot (less then 40 plays a month). The book risk is higher then the # advantage you would gain because of soft #s over 40 games.justmyopinion

Just wanted to bump my question up re shopping for additional books. There is another thread where plenty of praise is coming down on Rio. I was curious if this crowd was also praiseworthy of Rio and the 1/2 point promo. I'm suspecting otherwise, but being new here I am still mostly guessing.

All the best,
good to meet ya all.

Pretending - Rio is far from a shit book. They have been around a while and offered this 1/2 point promotion for a while. From a bettor's point of view I can't imagine not having an account there for football. You and your money will be fine there. Welcome to the site by the way.

Dime - have you called them? Must be something they can do on their end?

yea. some people dont even find out about wagering off shore until they come across an ad for it or a brochure, pop -up, an email or whatever. when you look at the ads in a magazine in an airplane or something, really what kind of criteria can one use to tell them apart? you cant. they all look like winners when youre just looking at the ads. especially when the poorer books often tend to have the bigger bonuses. its true, not everyone knows about the rx, mw, osb and sportsbookreview. if they did I doubt a lot of these books would get the volume they have. we can sit here in a forum we're fortunate enough to know about, and bash the guys who play at these shops and the guys who run them. but you cant fault the guys playing at them when they dont know any better and you cant fault the books for trying to advertise and bring in business. its not like there are tv ads for pinnacle or billboards for olympic.

Thanks you guys. Now all I'm missing is Joey C. coming in and not trashing Rio (I like the J.C. straight-talk, tough love/tough-shit talk, BTW).

RobFunk... I have to disagree that you can't fault guys playing at bad books. FWIW, I met all the pop-ups, mega-bonuses,etc. with great distrust...and I don't know shit. What about 'buyer beware'? This ain't Girl Scout cookies they're selling (even those are loaded with trans-fats so can't be trusted).

I mentioned earlier playing with Sportsbook.com for a couple of years. I picked them because they were the biggest I could find and even then I raised my deposits slowly, being sure to collect checks along the way before sticking out my neck. Would love to know if anyone has any warnings for Sportsbook.com. I haven't had any trouble.

Schwab debit cards, BTW, are still possible to deposit directly into my SB account. I spoke w Schwab and they said they try to have no moral authority when it comes to how/where we spend money. They have cancelled deposits initially, but have always then honored them upon my phone calls. I have no other CCards which work anymore. Maybe this info is valuable to someone here...seems to be getting tougher to get money in and out freely.

Pretending,

There are just not as many people in this world as buyer beware as you. You got game, many do not.

Fortunately, some of us have balls and will take a calculated risk with a book that may not be too well known by most people who think they have a list of top books and any books not on this list are considered chit by them. Its easy to sit on your top books list and criticize others for playing at so called inferior books. The hard part is being open minded to books you may not have heard of and giving them a chance to prove they are just as good as any other book. Furthermore, a good book can turn to chit and vice versa. Im sure most people have sporthustlers as a chit book, but if my recent deposit turns into a quick pay and other things go well, then that would disprove the popular opinion and Id most likely be deemed "lucky". But if it turns into the expected slow pay hassles Id be deemed an idiot for playing here. A small price to pay for the ongoing knowledge and success enjoyed in this industry.
