Really ??? So hitting him in the Head is fine ? as Flacco wasn't giving himself up ..

You might be able to say it was a bang bang play and maybe he didn't see him slide. But he aimed for his head

Forearm to the neck. Clearly dirty play. Just look at the situation in the game and it 100000% tells you it was a dirty play. Down 13, about to be 20....close to end of first half. Knock out QB, still have a chance.

As a QB up 13 about to be 20.....why run there? You should know they are going to try to take off your head.

Flacco is giving himself up there, Yes but he did so in such a way so as to finagle The First Down, choosing to Go for that, to Get that First Down.

How is Alonso supposed to do his Job and prevent the First Down there? Flacco is on the ground below him directly after Kiki Voice In Head shouts:

"This Son of a Bitch is trying to get the First Down Oh NO &%#@#ing WAY MAN"

kiko-alonso-6a6bdfde68fb438c.jpg

Howz Kiki (or anyone) supposed to apply the Hit to Prevent that First Down? I mean: Physics-Wise. Snake is beneath him, on the turf, trying to slither for to put a BITE on Kiki.

What? Kiki should have led with his FEET? On that hit? Done a Hook Slide?

Just per Laws of Physics Kiki is hemmed in there, only so much he could do. His Priority is to stop the First Down. Kiki has One Job there.

As a QB up 13 about to be 20.....why run there? You should know they are going to try to take off your head.

This. ^^^

I don't know what will happen but I do know whichever way this goes there will be people pissed off about it. To some degree....rightly so.

Dirty or not it was a viscous hit.

One day the medical community will be able to measure CTE in real time and I'm not sure where that will leave football.

I would think that we need to hope that there are some kind of technology breakthroughs in helmets or otherwise to counter the inevitable medical knowledge of what such a hit means in terms of tangible consequences.

Flacco gets paid $100M. So it's hard to feel too sorry for him. Smart guy and he understands the assumption of risk.

But when we start receiving real time awareness of CTE what pee wee/junior high/high school kids are gonna play?

I think it'll be awhile before this stuff has any real impact on the NFL. Probably still a solid 10-20 years away (and who can predict anything 10-20 years out unless you are Ray Kurzweil?)

If the NFL is now the top 3000 football players in the world instead of the top 1500, you just really aren't going to notice a very big diffeence because that is still such an absurdly small % of the population and still the best players. And the $ is so great that many will take the known risk for a pay day.

If you are trying to knock someone out in any sport not called ufc and boxing....it's a dirty play to me.

Clearly will be a fine. And my guess a one game suspension because they didn't eject him. Just to send a message you can't load up on someones head/neck area like that.

Kiko Alonso fined $9,115 for hit on Joe Flacco

imrs.php

Kiko Alonso's hit on Joe Flacco in Week 8 will cost him.

The Miami Dolphins linebacker was fined $9,115 by the NFL for his hit that left Flacco concussed during the first half of the Ravens' 40-0 win on Oct. 27, a league spokesman told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Flacco also suffered a cut on his ear that required stitches.

After the game, Alonso told reporters he wasn't trying to hurt Flacco.

"It was bang, bang," Alonso said. "It got to a point where I thought maybe if he slid a second sooner, I was anticipating him sliding and I was going to not hit him, but I think it was like, you know, a second late,

which is why I hit him."

Flacco is officially questionable to play Sunday against the Tennessee Titans, but he cleared concussion protocol Wednesday and said he was good to go for the game.

Here are some other notable fines stemming from Week 8 games:

1. Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis was fined $48,620 for his helmet-to-helmet hit on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first half of Sunday's game.

Davis was fined nearly $50K because he's considered a repeat offender.

2. Detroit Lions defensive back Quandre Diggs was fined $24,309 for his helmet hit on Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Jesse James.
