Jeter was good but his name is mostly due to playing under the spotlight in the biggest US city of all and remaining remarkably injury free for like 20 seasons. He was a clean non steroid guy ,as far as is known, maybe about average with the glove, or a tad less ?
Not a HR/ RBI machine like an A-rod at his peak.
He hit for great average, great baserunner, did everything correctly and didn't make stupid mis-steaks.
He did this for 20 years on the biggest stage in MLB and bedded tons of primo babes at the same time.
He's an icon as much for his longevity and women vs. his career with a .300 + batting average, 3,400 + hits, and giving all he had on the field. He's definitely worthy of HOF, but only when evaluating his whole career.
On any given year, he was probably not the best SS in the game that year, but he was there every year consistently, like a Cal Ripken
