I'm not sure I can bring myself to wager on a spring training game, but if I do... it may be tomorrow. I'm going to think long and hard and sleep on it overnight. We've already announced our lineup for tomorrow night's ESPN game:

Fowler
Heyward
Zobrist
Rizzo
Bryant
Schwarber
Soler
Russell
Hammel

This is just about our optimal lineup with Schwarber catching. Maddon is electing to let the pitcher hit (he did the same with Lackey today) rather than use a DH so with only about two weeks left of ST I'm getting the feel that Maddon is starting to work towards getting these guys game-ready and treating each contest as such.

I wish they had team totals for spring... lol.

I may be back tomorrow before the game with a final decision, otherwise I won't be playing anything.

John how many season tickets do you have?

I might go out there and visit some old childhood friends in the next
couple years or so. And you are going to take me to a couple games.
And when the Beer and Hot Dog Vendors walk by your are going to say

As E said, just let us know when you make your way out here and we'll set it up. We're bleacher bums so it's general admission. We could get the whole rat pack together since it's so easy to sit wherever in GA. GL getting Mob to come to Chi just to watch the lovable losers tho.

I can confirm your money is no good here. Last year while I was at a game I asked a vendor if they would take an account-to-account transfer from Kevy's 5Dimes or Heritage account to pay for the food and they were confused as to what the hell I was talking about. So I'll bring cash when you're here to avoid any awkward moments.

I'm going to take the plunge here. I'm hearing that Hammel will get to throw 5-6 innings tonight which means the hitters could get 3-4 at bats each. That's pretty close to a full game worth of starting talent. We're also the deepest team in the league so I'm not worried about subs either. I like the fact that AZ comes into this game at 12-3 in ST while the Cubs are 4-11 and fresh off a 10-0 loss. Those records and stats mean virtually nothing other than possibly being the reason for us being able to grab a short line. I don't want to get carried away because in the end it's still an unpredictable ST game. So, with that said, a small to medium sized wager on an attractive price:

Schwarber
Soler
Russell
Kawasaki
Hammel

The Diamondbacks lineup is out, and Bradley is hitting 8th:

How many season tickets do you guys have and how does
that work in a general admission bleachers type of setting?

This year we have just one on each of our separate accounts. When my name got called for tickets in 2014 I had a pair but when E's got called in 2015 we split them up to 1 each with the plan to add more to each account once we got good and could resell extras easily. Turns out that ended up being last year and when we tried to add on more tickets this season they wouldn't let us because virtually everyone renewed their seats and MLB monitors total limits on season tickets.

So just one each, but since it's GA you can sit literally anywhere (we're always in left center) and all you have to do is grab a ticket and then it's first come first serve. The bleachers don't start getting packed until about 20 minutes until game time so there's never any problems sitting in groups when our friends come along.

Whenever you're headed into town we'll just grab you an extra GA on StubHub and we're set. There's always plenty up for resale so we can get any group together whenever (that's what our friends do who aren't STH's).

Nice, easy, rocking chair, blowout winner (15-4) to start the season. Hopefully we can carry that tune all year long.

Back to the well with a very similar situation as the first play. Hammel on the mound again who will be undervalued for a while after his poor performance in the second half of last season. We've got an unbelievable lineup today and Phillips was scratched with neck stiffness for the Reds. Big pitching and hitting advantage to start the game which is enough for me to lay the chalk in another spring game.

The Cubs rested most of their starters today in a shutout loss. The big bats will be back in the lineup tomorrow for the ESPN game against the Giants. Bumgarner is as solid as they come and I hate to go against him but if you're offering me this Cubs lineup with Jake on the mound at plus money I will take that against any other pitcher/lineup combo in MLB today.

today only soler and bryant played vs a full tex lineup is why they were hammered

is the lineups confirmed on the cubs twitter?

Not yet, but the lead Cubs beat writer tweeted yesterday that most of the starters were resting yesterday in anticipation of a full lineup today. I'll post the lineup as soon as I see it.

Actually even Bryant sat yesterday. Russell, Schwarber and Soler were the only three starters in that lineup.

The same Cubs writer just tweeted that this will be Arrieta's last long start of the spring before beginning to scale back... so you can expect to see a good dose of Jake and a premier lineup tonight.

Giants lineup:

Span CF
Panik DH
Duffy 3B
Posey C
Pence RF
Belt 1B
Crawford SS
Pagan LF
Tomlinson 2B
Bumgarner P

Annoying how our opponent is using a DH again while we opt not too... Oh well, Bumgarner could hit anyways if he had to.

a real baseball game! both with full lineups the one thing cubs has going for them is that bumgarner is in terrible form sporting an over 10 era. with a 1.70 whip in preseason. with cubs resting players looking to this one i lean with your cubbies...the caveat though is some of the giants have historically tee'd off on jake

Turns out Arrieta has a blister on his pitching hand which resulted in him getting pulled after 0.1 IP and a nice shellacking by the Giants... really nothing you can do when that happens other than rip up your ticket. Oh well, just hope he's okay for the season.
