Never thought he would be at this level....how will he do when the playoffs come? Will he rise or just turn into Lamar Jackson?

NFL MVP odds on the move; Eagles' Jalen Hurts new favorite to win award

It took 14 weeks of games, but the NFL MVP odds board finally has a new name on top. All season long, it’s been either Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen, and at fairly short odds, no less.

Now, Jalen Hurts — who was a sizable long shot when this market opened — has made it to the top in odds to win the NFL MVP.

If the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback can keep rolling, then some bookmakers could take a notable hit, particularly from bettors who jumped on the Hurts train early.

Hurts so good

The Eagles won their first eight games and continue to have the NFL’s best record, sitting at 12-1 through 14 weeks. Hurts is obviously a huge reason for that success.

The third-year QB has thrown for 3,187 yards, with 22 touchdown passes against just three interceptions. He’s got a hefty 108.4 QB rating — up 21 points over last season — and oh, by the way, has also rushed for 686 yards and 10 TDs.

Those are impressive numbers, and a potential nightmare for FOX Bet.

"Hurts initially opened at +8000 after the 2021-22 season, but was quickly cut to +5000 and steadily dropped in price since," FOX Bet trader Matthew Griffe said. "Hurts currently stands as our largest liability on the market, closely followed by Derek Carr."

However, Carr is no longer listed on FOX Bet’s NFL MVP odds. Meanwhile, Hurts is the -143 favorite (bet $10 to win $16.99 total), leapfrogging Chiefs superstar Mahomes this week. If you got on Hurts months ago at +8000 (80-1) for, say, a hundred bucks, then you’re on the precipice of winning $8,000. Heck, even a $10 bet would net $800 at those long odds.

But the race isn’t over yet. Mahomes is still a close No. 2 choice, at +180. Bills QB Allen has fallen back considerably from earlier this season and now sits No. 4 at +2000.

Between Mahomes and Allen is Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow, who’s got his team rolling of late and is the +700 third choice. Griffe said FOX Bet would certainly take Mahomes or Burrow at this point, seeking to dodge a Hurts MVP win.

"Mahomes and Burrow would be solid results for us in terms of liability," Griffe said.

Jalen Hurts, Eagles QB: -143 (bet $10 to win $16.99 total)
Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs QB: +180 (bet $10 to win $28 total)

Josh Allen, Bills QB: +2000 (bet $10 to win $210 total)

Tua Tagovailoa, Dolphins QB: +7000 (bet $10 to win $710 total)

Haters will say he hasn’t played against a good team.

Nothing against him but the idea he’s mvp over mahomes is out there to me.

Chiefs haven’t missed much of a beat losing Tyreek Hill and replacing him with league average receivers. Mahomes is getting you DD wins every year unless his arm gets chopped off or the team straight blows.

If hurts wins, could see that looking dumb in a few years. Like when Wentz was going to win over brady before his injury, yeah he had a great year but he isn’t more valuable than Tom Brady. Just all the pieces were in place for him that year and he played well.

Disclaimer: Id do the obligatory “I don’t care who wins unless I have money on it” but I do have money on Mahomes so he needs the respect

Is he another Wentz?
Probably not becaues he can run

But he will do the Lamar Jackson dance in the playoffs

Actually Wentz was a good runner---not nearly as good as Hurts---and ran too much early in his career and was dinged and dinged and became mediocre.
Sure, Hurts right now is MVP, but he is running way too much and eventually he will get dinged and dinged and maybe even have a major injury.
Next 7 years I would take Herbert & Burrow and a few others over Hurts for my team.
QBs that run too often by design are destined to be mediocre when they get injured. Hurts can take them to the Super Bowl this year, though, no doubt, if he stays healthy.

Wentz wasn't a good runner. THat doesn't mean he wasn't mobile. By good runner I don't mean occsionally running when being chased gettin away and making small runs or passing and not getting sacked
I am talkins about Vick, Cunningham, Young ,Jackson, Allen and Wilson with Seattle. Designed running plays or even making great runs when the pass wasn't there often out of design

No Wentz is not in that category but he ran way too often, some by design but also taking off when chased and trying to make extra yardage did well but ruined his career.
Trubisky, too, ran too often spent 2 yrs with a shoulder harness after trying to run over HGH mutants on defense.

Hurts will win MVP this season much the same way Cam Newton won his----one great season with a great supporting cast that nobody in their right mind believes is the best player in football and a season that won't be duplicated by said QB again.

I'd prefer he doesn't win only because I don't want to see Hurts getting a 50 mil contract .... We do need other players
But he does deserve it

After 1 year? Hell no
He still has 2 years on his contract
I wouldn't extend it until the end of next year at earliest if he has another great season I would consider it

If you guys remember, last year Brady was the fav, then he had that horrible game against the Saints, Rodger had a good game, and it turned around from there on out regardless what Brady did afterwards
