MLive.com's Philip Zaroo compared Best's foot issues to "tying a boxer's hands behind his back." Now Best is running with the first-team offense as the Lions' feature back. Second-round rookie Mikel Leshoure anticipates only a "complementary" role, probably meaning no more than 12 carries a game.

There is no way that whoever else the Lions sign will be getting that many carries as a backup running back in a pass-first offense. With rookie Mikel Leshoure (Achilles) done for the year, we've bumped Jahvid Best's projection to 14.5 carries per game. It's also possible that Best will now be getting goal-line work.

"Every rep [Best] is taking now - at 100 percent healthy - he's taking it to another level," Linehan said. With Mikel Leshoure (Achilles) out for the season, Best's projected touches got a boost. He has top-15 overall upside in PPR formats.

"It was nothing bad, but I just wasn't feeling right so they told me to sit down," Best said. "I'm not concerned at all." Schwartz even hinted that Best has no injury.

Best experienced a "little headache" after having his bell rung, so the Lions sent him to the locker room. "By the next day he was clearing up and I think that's a big thing," said Schwartz. "In my experience with guys that have been concussed, usually they finish the game and they feel fine right after the game, and the next day they come in and haven't slept and all the classic symptoms." Schwartz hopes to have Best back on the field "soon," though his status for this week's game is uncertain.

Best sat out his third straight practice Tuesday and probably won't play in Saturday's preseason game as a mere precaution. In part due to the major concussion Best suffered in college, the Lions are exercising extra caution. The issue doesn't figure to linger into the season and owners can comfortably select Best as a high-upside pick in fantasy drafts.

"He had fresh legs," said coach Jim Schwartz. "He passed all his (tests). I know we have no real major concerns that he wouldn't pass ... He looked good." Best will be held out of the third preseason game as a precaution, but fantasy owners shouldn't be worried about the minor concussion when they draft.

It's a major red flag for Best, who dealt with severe concussion issues in college and sustained one during this year's training camp. If Best misses time, Maurice Morris projects as the primary back with Keiland Williams and Jerome Harrison backing him up. The Lions have a bye looming in Week 9.

Morris is a must-add for Best owners as the Lions may choose to work around the Week 9 bye.
