The left seems to think John Ashcroft is the boogy man of civil rights since he implemented the "patriot act".These laws that were passed with the intent to keep up with technilogical advances that terrorist were proven to use and to level the playing field with terrorist activity. These laws were passed OVERWHELMINGLY by both congress and senate by both sides of the aisle.Recently, Diane Feinstein a left wing democrat from Cal. asked the ACLU how many complaints or suits were filed with them since the implementation of the "patriot act" regarding these new laws..The ACLU answer was NONE!!!ZERO!!

So my little lefties do me a favor and make a great big list of all the pain and suffering that you have endured due to the "patriot act"

It doesn't matter if the law has not caused actual pain and suffering and has not had whatever complaints (I know there are many issues with it so I'm not quite sure what refers to). The evil in it is that it is UNCONSITUTIONAL. Period. I thought it was the conservatives that were protective of the consistution and the bill of rights. Apparently not. Even if the law has never been used, if it is unconstitutional it should not be on the books. It's that simple.

It passed Congress because it was right after 9-11, they didn't even read it, and it was CALLED the PATRIOT Act. How could they be against patriotism right after 9-11, ya know?

There needs to be a full sunshine review of the Act so we can strip away those provision which go too far and keep (and maybe expand upon) those legit provision that are Consititutional and do some good. How would this be a bad thing?

The FBI admitted that they had gotten a number of convictions that were completely unrelated to terrorism thanks to these powers. I mean they didn't even sugar coat it, they said it helped them out in a number of cases of all types. Why bother having Constitutional rights if you have a government that will just work to find loopholes around them?

Yeah Patriot, no one here has ever cited any examples of USA-PATRIOT abuse or presented any clear arguments against that act, DSEA, VICTORY, or Ashcroft. The stupid leftist liberal traitor French terror appeasers on this board would never do such a thing.

Phaedrus,

Well, really I was just lampooning the typical Republican party line ... but just to be on the safe side, would you mind having a look at these pictures and tell me what runs through your mind?

I didn't realize that there was a constitutional right to commit a crime without getting caught. I coulnd't find where exactly that was located. Maybe you could help me out here and find it for me.

There is no right to commit a crime, but there is presumption of innocence until proven guilty and the freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures. This government doesn't care about that, they just like to say they are doing something about terrorism. That was their stated goal of the Patriot Act. To come out and admit that they used their new powers for other reasons means they just ran around the Constitution. That shouldn't make anyone proud...

What seems laughable (if it weren´t so damn sad) is that to be a patriot in these times you must be a full government apologist.

"To come out and admit that they used their new powers for other reasons means they just ran around the Constitution."

This statement gives proof that you have no idea what your talking about. Its good to know however, that you are able to rehash catch phrases without the slightest bit of thought.

These powers are new for fighting terrorism. They have been in effect for quite a while. The Patriot Act gives law enforcement officials similar powers to what was already allowed for fighting crime.

"freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures"

Maybe you missed the part of requiring a judges approval. Nothing unreasonable about it at all.
