I was a college athlete and I'll say this. the players should get a small amount some how. even if its a student loan at 0% interest that is paid back after school. something. people don't realize that these kids while legally can have a job its next to impossible to actually do with a full course load and practice. and even if you do have a job the ncaa only allows you to work so many hours. i dont think they should get much but maybe like $250-350 a month. just so you atleast have a little cash to go to the movies or buy some food and stuff.

Think of the money that half of these players would have if they didn't get all of those tattoos. Hmm, eating and money for laundry or ink? I hate hard decisions...

Think of the ticket price of your seat when the school has to start delving out money to it's new hourly employees.

That's just it. The cost is going to get passed on somehow and most likely to the other students in increased tuition, parking, books, etc. I worked full time for 4 years to pay my way. Money was tight and because I was dumbass 18 year old who lost their scholarship first semester. These athletes tales of survival are just that. It's college. Check out this quote from one nfl player.

"We got $1,100 a month,” Schofield said of his time at Wisconsin. “You pay rent at $650, you pay your cell phone bill and if you have a car up there you have to pay for parking. How do you pay for your bills and groceries?"

So guy gets $1100 a month and pays $650 for rent? I split a three bedroom for $1000 with 2 other room mates. I made about $2000 a month when I was in school. $333 went to rent. Roughly $400 went to groceries. Around $1000 went to tuition. I also had to pay for gas and cell phone.

Never knew about this even though it stands to reason that if you are onone of the bigtime teams you are not goig to have a lot of free time after practice and studying. REspect your opinion, a difernt perspective from most here. I think you need to bump it up to at least $1000 a month now which is not a lot but I want them to feel obligated to stay for 4 years. A free ride is a great gift in the first place. Ask the girls who areworking 2 or 3 parttime jobs trying to stay afloat with little social life who go to classes with these "big dumb jocks".

Yeah the amount could be haggled back and forth. But I really feel they should get something but not a lot either. I was fortunate when I was in school that my parents made pretty good money and would just deposit some cash into my bank account so I could do general stuff. However, I watched my roommate literally never do anything unless one of us paid for him cause he had no money at all. Just giving guys some cash to go out to eat with or hit the movies occasionally would be a big deal to a lot of athletes. I feel very fortunate the I didn't have to pay much for school. I say not much cause most people don't realize that a full scholarship doesn't always mean completely free. I went to school out of state so they waived the out of state tuition and paid 75% of the in state tuition, books and room and board. I still had to pay 25% of the tuition plus my meal plan and that was considered a full scholarship.

Easy, where and when did you go to school if you don't mind... don't think that modern day stu-athls would be in agreement with you ,guessing that thety would want more. Decent of you to specify movie money vs. make-it-rain nite. ANd yes if you stll paid 25% of tuiton that's a major chunk of change!

Excuse althe typos , lptop keyboard sucking out
