Very underrated player and not on TV because before Dave Odom left, he made sure nobody would give a damn about South Carolina.

speaking of so. carolina do you know where Mike Jones is? He transferred there from Syracuse 2 years ago. I believe he was supposed to be eligible this season, but don't see him on the roster. Just wondering what happened to him because from what I saw from his brief time on the hill he was pretty talented

curry gets too many assists to be a sg imo, but you're right, he's an nba sg, a la reggie miller, yes? maybe better?:think2:

Speaking of transfers and Terrible shooters. The worst player at SYR was Deshaun Williams (I think) transferred to Iona.

This dud was chucker, he sucked.

he was also a woman beater (like devo). when he was at SU he knocked out the mascot Otto the Orange, who happened to be an annoying woman dj from hot 107.9

no way curry ends up being a better nba player than reggie miller, no way. i personally dont see curry excelling at the next level. he has moved his way up the projected draft charts though. some places ive read even have him in the lottery now. james harden will be the top guard chosen from the next draft though.

Ty Lawson is a great PG, but he also has fantastic players around. Johnny Flynn and Lawson do not even compare as defenders. The NBA is about being able to create and get your own shot at anytime.

You look at the guards in college that are good NBA PGs. Deron Williams, Chris Paul, Tony Parker, Steve Nash, they all have the ability to seperate and create their own shot at anytime and knock it down consistently.

Not taking anyting away from Lawson, but the NBA is apples to oranges. One night he will go against D Rose, then Rando, then Devin Harris. Why do you think Ray Felton is basically an afterthough when it comes to PGs in the NBA.

Couldn't meet grade requirements. Tried transferring to some Community College in Iowa (or Indiana) and I guess that flopped too. Not sure what he's up to these days...but if he's flipping burgers thats a big waste of talent!

Flynn 2.7 turns last year 1.95 ass/turn ratio

Lawson 2.2 turns with 2.36 ass/ turn ratio

Comparable but this year so far Lawson 1.1 turns and 6.1 ass/turn!!!!

Flynn 3.3 turns 1.65.....

Not staggering numbers but to say he is more out of control than lawson is a fair arguement

Lawson has been unreal so far this year

Sometimes he gets a bit ahead of himself and tries to get too fancy. Doesn't help when Harris and Onuaku seemingly have stone hands at times and Jonny zings em a no looker they're not expecting.

But to backtrack on one of your previous statements, about Jonny being a shoot first PG - that's not true. Last year we lost two of our best shooters in Devendorf and Rautins - leaving Jonny as the only reliable option from deep (I don't count Greene, he was just selfish and took too many dumb shots.)

This year we've needed his shooting to notch the W - especially in the second half. Against Richmond - down 7 at half - Jonny scores 16 points in the final 15 minutes. Against Kansas - down 11 at half - Jonny scores 17 of his 25 in the second half (19 including the overtime.) Against Virginia - down 11 at half - Jonny notches 12 of his 15 points in the second half. He really only lets it fly when we really need him to...and so far this season and last...we've really needed his touch.

Expect to see more of the same now that Devendorf has been suspended for the remainder of the year (pending appeal.)

NBA 2 guards aren't 6'2.. they are like 6'5 ++.. 6'2 pure shooters are nba bench riders... like J.J. Reddick... Stephen curry is the same story

exactly. people forget how good of a shooter reddick was/is, and he still rides the bench in the pros.

Lawson has a lot of problems i can point out. He is small, no length really... Very messed up shooting mechanics that he doesn't seem to care to fix... If he wants a shot at substantial minutes in the NBA he needs to learn to be a consistent shooter from outside or everyone will just dare him to take it (yes his outside shooting is good so far this year but he still doesn't take it much and it's to early to tell if it is better at all).. Lawson will get shot over all day by other guards.. Defense is suspect

That being said there is more things he does right and he has game for sure, but i could find 5 or 6 pg's i would rather have on my team in college right now

Comparing Reddick and Curry is a joke. Reddick needed a ridiculous number of screens to get open looks. Curry has the ability to shoot over big defenders and completely understand how to create space using a jab step that allows him an uninterrupted release.

Curry has handles that JJ never had. Just because the guy is a great shooter doesn't mean they are the same player.

Reddick was a great shooter, but could he have led Davidson last year to the elite 8? HELL NO.

what big defenders is he shooting over? not BIG QUICK nba caliber defenders.. he's shooting over a bunch of shit WV players... Every guard has handles and you don't think people can figure out the jabstep? He won't be able to create his own shot like this in the nba...

If he really wants to make it in the nba he has to learn to play the point well.. he is an OK passer at best and also can improve ball-handling.. 2 guards in the nba aren't 6'2 (is he even that tall)

HE is one of the most clutch college players i have seen in a while though, great shooter

I have no arguement against Lawson. Like Jonny, he's a beast. Basically - I don't think they're really comparable. Both in extremely different situations and both have to lead their teams in different ways. Lawson has more experienced talent around him - so he is able to manage and kind of be the general and is able to take his points as they come.

Jonny's main role has been to be the engine of this Syracuse squad - and when called upon has to do whatever he can to produce (and unfortunetly thats been quite a bit.) If that means spotting up from deep - that's what he has to do. Don't get me wrong - we definitely have other scoring options (Onuaku, Harris, Devendorf, Rautins) but they go as Jonny goes. We really cant afford to have Jonny on the bench more than 4-5 minutes a game or have an off game. Now that Devendorf is facing a season-long suspension - Jonny is going to have to bring it up a notch...once again.

But - If I had to take one guy to run the point between Jonny and Lawson...right now - I'd take Lawson. Why? That extra year of experience. I've seen people comparing Jonnys stats from the last two seasons to Lawsons - and thats not really a good barometer. If you take a look at Jonnys freshman year up to this season and put those next to Lawsons freshman and soph years they're basically identical - Jonny with the edge in scoring for beformentioned reasons.
