I think the entire election is being blown out of proportion, especially by African Americans, but by all races in general. First off, Obama is NOT an African American. Why must people keep describing his as such. His mother was a white woman from Kansas, while his Kenyan father left when he was two years old. He was basically raised in a white family his entire life. People are making such a big deal about the entire election, solely because he is NOT COMPLETELY a white person. African Americans, blacks or as an all-inclusive term, people of color (I think thats PC now), are trying to claim his as their own, when this is entirely untrue. He is a mix of multiple backgrounds/races etc...or as he put it on television a few days ago, "a mutt"...which didn't go over so well apparently.

That said, I think the majority of "people of whom are not white" voted for him simply because they thought he would be their savior because he is no longer the white male that has been the president for hundreds of years passed. In reality, many of these same people are going to be very disappointed with the outcome of this election, his policies and how it affects there life.

We have all seen Peggy Joseph, ignorance at its best, say that she won't have to buy gas and pay her mortgage etc. The majority of Americans are uneducated just like Peggy, and many of them, black, white, hispanic etc vote for a candidate simply on one issue. For example, many religious people vote for a candidate strictly b/c he is pro-life or pro-choice. What everyone needs to realize is that no matter what side you're own for this issue, Roe vs. Wade will never be overturned and matter of abortion will never change. Yet, people continue to make that their biggest issue when voting for a candidate (which is ridiculous imo). Either way, the voting process is flawed and people in general are ignorant, uneducated and make poor decisions when going to the polls.

We must also realize that Congress plays a huge role in all decisions in Washington. Do people really think Obama is going to come through on all his policies? Absolutely not, no president has and no president ever will. He simply said the right things to get elected. Those people looking for handouts are going to be sorely disappointed when they don't get them, and we will never hear from they because the media will not cover it.

Finally, I am a white male, but my family never had slaves. Where does that put me? My family immigrated to the US in the late 1800s. Sure, it may have been easier for me growing up as just a white male, but my ancestors were not given any help when they came to the US. They came with nothing just like everyone else. Maybe the only benefit was that they were not racially segregated until the 1950s like the blacks. Either way, people like me still pay for things because we simply are white males. Why am I penalized by Affirmative Action? Why is racism unipolar? It should go both ways.

This election does not bring tears to my eyes, make me excited or make me disappointed. If anything, this election shows that racism is still an issue for millions of Americans. Nothing has changed. We are just talking about it now because white people aren't in control anymore as the leader of America.

The color of the president may have changed, but racism and ignorance in America surely hasn't.
