any opinions on avast or avg?

Avast is nice, but haven't tried avg. I have used NOD32 2.7 for two years now without spending a penny and i have never had my comp infected. The great part about this version is that it doesn't consume a lot of your memory like norton or mcafee do.

Just follow the readme file in there and you will have antivirus protection for free plus unlimited updates in the future.

Norton and Mcafee are the jokes of the industry.

The problem that Doug is going to have is Norton is as difficult to remove from your system as any virus.

I use the free version of AVG and it's better than anything I've ever paid for.

In fact, I now have AVG because I had to buy a new hard drive because fucking $100 a year McAfee allowed a virus to destroy my computer. Once I installed my new HDD, I decided never to pay again. After much research, I found AVG and highly recommend it.

I think Norton creates these viruses to sell their product !

Like a small town auto glass shop, that might just love it, if teens took to smashing car windows.

exactly i learned the hard way, going forward i will not buy a computer that has Norton or Mcaffee or any other "Trial" software installed on it.

It is a shame that computer companies still do this.

Ordering from Dell directly and insisting nothing but windows be installed works well.

thank you.

i assume this is a free download of NOD32 2.7 that can receive updates unlike their traditional 30-day trials that expire?

Not really. Simms is no better and Brandstater is way to raw.

Oh, sorry, thought you said Orton. :icon_conf

Avast or AVG are both very solid products. I've used Avast for years and it's always served me well. ZoneAlarm is a firewall, not an antivirus program, and used to be very good. The last several versions have been crap, though. Comodo has taken the lead in the free firewall department.

Only buy a Mac if you like paying a 40 percent markup on status marketing and saying things like "I don't even OWN a TV" to boost your smugness factor.

Zonealarm is an internet security suite that includes Antivirus and Antispyware+ a ton of other stuff.

I've had Zonealarm for about ten years now with no complaints. You get constant updates for the antivirus and antispyware protection. I also installed a router for added protection.

I have used AVG forever it seems. I have at least 10 others who use it and have had no problems.

Nod32 is pretty good and much easier on the resources. Add in malwarebytes too.
