GB,It's the reasoning behind hate crime legislation. More important to get this type of individual out of the general population.

Astounding that you dont agree. This is neither left or right wing just commonsense to try and afford some safety for the citizens.

A man murders his wife or a mother kills her kids, these are crimes of murder but these people are not likely to kill just anyone.

A guy murders a Mexican, that he does not know, because he hates Mexicans. This Guy is very likely to kill again.

I can see a difference. Surprised that some of you can't.

How on earth can you possibly conclude that a person who committed murder will not commit murder again? maybe that person will murder somebody else they know.

I'm not surprised some people think the more subjective, the more political, the more they can get emotional, the better.

You are now punishing thought. A thought the government doesn't like. I just think if you murder someone you should be charged with murder regardless of the victim. Is it any worse if in the 60's a KKK member murders a black person, or the KKK member murders the black citizen's wife/husband who happens to be white? I personally don't see the difference. Feel free to disagree.

I totally understand where you are coming from a stance of equality etc but if all things were equal the victim of the hate crime would likely still be alive because they wouldn't have been a target, well no more of a target than anyone else.

they were no more of a target than the next white, black, hispanic, purple person they may happen to live with or work with.

Obviously it is no worse and obviously both killings were based on skin color

All crime should be handled on an individual basis. Or at least all serious crime

All punishment should serve no purpose other than to best protect the community. Or at least all punishment served out by the government

Anyone disagree?

In Maryland Gov. O'Mally signed legislation that says that any crime against a homeless person is a hate crime.

There was a republican that agreed to the expansion of this legislation but said that he'd be perfectly fine with have no hate crime laws at all.

Well, I voted against the war before I voted for it.

He's probably a rhino. I think it's a joke that a crime against a homeless person is now a hate crime. What a friggin joke.

In all reality, hurting those drunken rats probably does society a favor.
