For you guys that follow horse......
Was the timing always like this between the 3 Triple Crown races? Or...... is it just the new puss thing to do...... laying out of races 1 and 2..... or maybe just 2..... and trying to steal the 3rd?
It's always been the same format in the modern era. Three races 5 weeks. Back in the old days they seemed to run the same field of horses in all 3 races more than they do today. You also didn't have as many trainers who had a full fleet of horses like Baffert and Todd Pletcher do. They enter 2 or 3 different horses in each race. Each with different running styles. Baffert pretty much owned the Derby this year. with his front runner horse Dortmund setting the pace and finishing third, and his off the pace horse Pharoah winning. Trainers seem to have many more choices these days. So it will probably take a freak of a horse like a Secretariat to win the triple crown. Or at least close to a Secretariat. Smarty Jones was one of the best horses that I've seen in the last 20 years. He had a perfect running style for the triple crown races. And he still fell short. I think it can still be done, but it's going to take having a horse that is extremely strong and durable mixed with a little racing luck. For you guys that follow horse......
