"While that may sound like the set up for an actual movie, it is the reality of the COVID-19 crisis, as Deadpool himself is self-isolating at his New York home with his wife, actor Blake Lively, their three daughters aged three, five and eight, and Lively’s mother.

“Yeah it’s nothing but estrogen, and I wouldn’t have it any other way,” said Reynolds, reached by phone recently to take part in our ongoing isolation questionnaire series. “I grew up in a house full of boys and men and, you know, I remember it clearly. At eight years old, I knew how to patch and repair drywall in under 10 minutes, because we were just little homicidal maniacs. The cops were called to our house more often than I could count on both hands. And, unfortunately, my father, who was a cop, once in a while it would be him that came to the door.

“So yeah, I love being under a roof of nothing but women and girls,” added Reynolds. “It is a softer existence. There has been absolutely no instance of violence — other than my one daughter trying to scratch my other daughter’s eyes out a few minutes ago. But otherwise, it’s been a perfectly low-resting-heartbeat-type of vibe around here.”
That may also have something to do with the gin, perhaps?
Reynolds owns Aviation Gin, and agreed that having access to a bit of booze has helped with the social isolation. But he points out that he isn’t swimming in a bathtub full of the stuff.
“You’d be surprised, I’m down to a few bottles,” said Reynolds. “At some point, I may have to actually make that call. But so far, so good.”

So far, Reynolds and his family have been doing some homeschooling, baking, gardening and some dressing down.
“Nothing but Dior. No I’m not wearing Dior. It’s the full sweatpants deal here,” said Reynolds. “We’re going for unattended chic, mirror-less bravado.”
While in self isolation, Reynolds has used his time well. He’s re-writing a script — he wouldn’t say if it is Deadpool 3 — and he’s making sure his and Lively’s good fortune and star status goes toward helping during the COVID-19 crisis.
They have donated more than a $1 million to food banks in Canada and the U.S., as well as donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to New York hospitals.

Most recently, Reynolds re-posted a social media plea from Hayley Wickenheiser, the four-time Olympic hockey gold medallist, asking for masks, gloves, and gowns for Canada’s frontline healthcare workers. Reynolds, who has close to 16 million Twitter followers and 35 million more on Instagram, said the support for that cause has been huge.
As a business owner, Reynolds says he and his partners are working hard to keep staff working at Aviation Gin and Mintmobile. Both those companies have also helped out others affected by COVID-19. Mintmobile is giving free data and Aviation has set up a fund to help out U.S. and Canadian out-of-work bartenders.

While Reynolds hopes to keep employees on the payroll, he and the rest of the moviemaking world have been put on hold as productions have stopped and already completed movie projects, which would have involved promotion, have seen release dates pushed back to who knows when?
But Reynolds is quick to point out that he’ll be just fine. He’s got Deadpool money, after all. What he hopes is that people continue to sing the praises of and offer support to the health care workers, and others in essential services like grocery store employees, that are still working.
“Those people are heroes, too,” said Reynolds about grocery store staff. “We all owe them a huge, cartoonishly enormous tip of the hat.”

Reynolds himself was one of those people years ago. In fact, he credits his strong work ethic to time spent stocking grocery store shelves and waiting tables at Vancouver establishments.

Another job he had was delivering The Vancouver Sun newspaper. He did that from the age of 10 until he was 15.
He laughed about that gig and felt a bit sorry for himself as he looked back at the job and how he dreaded Saturdays and the biggest paper of the week.
“That thing was like having a f—ing Buick In my bag, or several Buicks, it was inhumane,” said Reynolds, who described his paperboy plight as being made ever worse by a route that included the steep Puget Drive part of the city. “I mean it’s 1,000 stairs per house. I would cheat and sort of jury-rigged the system where I would be hopping fences instead. But I’d always get busted by some, you know, angry finger wagging homeowner who would tell me to go down the stairs and hoof it all the way back up.
