The Indiana Fever (8-2) come into tonight's contest with a mental slip against the Phoenix Mercury last night. The Fever got killed on the fast break points 26-2, and it was their worst defensive performance of the season. Coach Brian Winters said that there was a possibility his team looked too far ahead for tonight's game, and that was the reason why they had a letdown at home. The team has yet to play a complete game with at least one bad quarter per game.
The Shock (7-0) were able to scrap out a victory against the struggling Connecticut Sun last night with veteran experience coming through in the last two minutes of the game. The champions from last year didn't play a clean game, committing 21 turnovers and their worst game of the season by far. Coach Bill Laimbeer told his team better clean it up for tonight's game if they were to pull out a victory tonight.
The game lost a little bit of its luster since the Fever were defeated last night, but I think it makes them more of a difficult opponent for the Shock to face. Detroit has played a spotty schedule so far, averaging about a game a week. Normally, a team with this much talent should be able to correct its mistakes for tonight's game, but I think the Shock will still struggle with their turnovers due to the inconsistent scheduling and playing time. A team can't play 100% clean basketball when it last played Sunday and then 2 games in the span of two weeks.
Indiana may have lost last night, but I think their concentration will be sharpened due to the letdown and the better on-court chemistry they have at the moment. Detroit's season is about to pick up, but the Fever are a team that has given fits to the Shock in the Palace of Auburn Hills. I expect the Fever to make a statement tonight, letting the Shock and Sun know they aren't the only Finals contenders in the East. I'd bite on the moneyline, but I'll take:
Fever +4 -110
to win 5 units at BetJamaica. Good Luck.
