I've researched the country pretty heavily. Other than the possible earthquake, it seems like the place I want to be.

What would my next step be?

Not looking to move or build now. More for retirement in 15-20 years.

This place isn't paradise... trust me.

And judging by your screen name you ride dirtbikes... Costa Rica has great dirt for motocross. Nice n' moist dirt with good traction especially during the dry season.

If you end if buying some land, build a track and invite me out... I am thinking about shipping my two nikes out there!

you should subscribe to the online version of the tico times and /or read amcostarica.com

you need to research and find a reputable real state agent , make sure that you get your property checked in the registry to make sure that its free of liens/lawsuits/etc

I think RacerX is the bad guy from the old Speed Racer cartoon.

P.S.

If you build a track make sure its downhill for the local mountainboarders.

Not to burst any bubbles, but if you really are 15-20 years from moving there, give it some time to see what's good in that time. Just ask the people who live there how different the place is for someone in your situation compared to 1990. There could be a lot of different hot spots or better places by then, you just really never know. Unless you are going to make numerous trips down there a year until your retirement, I wouldn't suggest making a big investment in it.

This will sound a little far fetched, but I invested in some beach props, and have made a little over 200k (current value) in a little under 4 years. Initial investment $2500 per lot, and $258 per month per lot. House costs 60K, lot cost 12.5k at opening. Bought 2 on small down payments and low monthlys, and current selling price 199K Each.

House + Lot = 72.5K now selling at 199K waiting list. I am in more shock than anyone. I have standing offers on two of the homes now, and construction starts in June. I am considering liquidating. This was all a pleasant accident to be honest.

This is a good time to buy and sell in CR. Expected Foriegners living in CR expected to double by 2010.

I was going to buy three to start, and now kick myself for not doing it.
