Going back to 1950 only 2nd baseman who might be comprable as fielders include Maz. Joe Morgan, and Ryne Sandberg only.

Honorable mention but not in same category goes to Lou Whitaker, Manny Trillo, Frank White, Bobby Richardson, Roberto Alomar, Bobby Grich and Pokey Reese (in no particular order).

#1 LOL - I gotta admit I don't remember any baseball before 1957, but I know Maz played throughout the 50's so I used 1950 as a starting date. I just came across a little stat. Of the 12 unassisted triple plays in major league history 7 have been made by shortstops, 3 by 2nd baseman, and 2 by 1st baseman.

Not easy to pick a best ever fielder because of the different postions, as far as 3rd. basemen go Brooks has to get the nod for the best ever. Followed by Ken Boyer, Ron Santo, Mike Schmidt, Buddy Bell, Gary Gaetti, and recently Scott Rolen, and maybe Eric Chavez. One - Brooks, Two - Schmidt.

Nettles may have one a few GG had it not been for Brooks winning every year ...Aurelio Rodriguez was very good but not a regular, and he also had a cannon at third...

Interesting choice Belch One. Based on reputation it certainly has to be considered. The ol' Huntington Ave Grounds was around 600 to center wasn't it? Probably overall the true greatest Red Sox player. Sorry Ted.
