DN,
It is of little coincidence that the finest American universities are located in the Northeast and West Coast. Take consolation in the fact that if the majority were of elite intelligence, then by definition we would just be average -- much like a 'C' student.

On a somewhat related note :

Basically the same in 04', but you can also chalk #8 up for the "smart side."

In Big 10 (11) country, Kerry carried the counties where University of Iowa and University of Minnesota reside. Other 9 schools counties voted Republican. I am surprised that Washtenaw county (U of Michigan) went repulican since they had much to gain with stem-cell research. Also St Joseph county Indiana (Notre Dame) went republican while the next county over (LaPorte, very rural) was one of 4 counties Bush lost.

Lander, not quite sure your logic works here too. Weren't the college kids voting Kerry. Guess not here anyway. Since some of the Rock Against Bush concerts were in Michigan, they failed in getting their message out.

Only thing Ivy-League schools are compared to Big-10/Notre Dame are more elite, not necessarily better.

Actually Kerry did win Washtenaw County (U of Michigan) too. That didn't look right when I looked at that county-by-county map of Mich.

Gives Kerry 3 of the Big 10 schools and not 2.

Fair,
I think we could all agree that there is a bit of a difference between the Big 10 and the Ivy League. There are colleges, even if they are CCs, in nearly every country -- that's why I used the stat that I did.

Since that wasn't convincing enough, consider that only 9 of the top 40 Universities reside in "Bush states."

There is a HUGE correlation between universities and political affiliation. I'm not naive enough to says it's all education based, but there clearly is a pattern -- I suspect an even bigger part of this is the culture and diversity that many Universities provide. The GOP areas that I speak of are historically intollerant --
if you were against slavery then you were a "lib"
if you were for woman's right to vote then you were a "lib"
if you were for minorities rights then you were a "lib"
if you were for immigration rights then you were a "lib"
NOW, if you are for gay rights you are a "lib"

Look, I've made more gay jokes than anyone else that I know ... but the fact is that ALL people are people and deserve equal treatment. (aside from violent and/or sexual predators felons -- they had equality and forfeited it IMO).

It is ALL about the intollerence of "the moral crowd" -- at what point does equality become a "moral issue"?
