... and then they realize they made a grave error, because sportsbooks all over europe have the odds set at 140/1.....

does this player have the right to call the bookie & ask for the bet to be cancelled due to the BAD LINE RULE?

after all, that is a GROSS difference.... isnt it?

An interesting question which I presume is not hypothetical.

1. Certainly the player should try to get his bet at 25/1 cancelled.

2. The book might well say that it is not a bad line citing similar odds at other books.

I just checked Pinny and they have USA at 37/1. Their hold is probably less than the run of the mill European book and represents their action. So 25/1 isn't too bad although Pinny is obviously better.

I don't know where you find 140/1 except Betfair, as quick checking showed European books serving mainly the European market at 100/1 and books like Canbet at 80/1.

Summary: There is no GROSS difference but a GEOGRAPHICAL difference. The player received a lesson and should have a European book for these types of events. If the player can use Betfair that is all he needs as they have the best numbers for most WC2006 events.

For the heck of it I calculated the hold for perfectly balanced action and found that Pinny is collecting 123.70 for every 100 paid for a hold of 19.16%. Not unreasonable for multiway events when most books have a hold of around 30% or more.

I think you are just looking at the hundreds or thousands of players taking 26/1 at SIA (the really dumb) or 38/1 at Pinny (the somewhat educated) from the perspective of a sharp shopper. Don't knock it since hopefully these players will give us good numbers on US matches (Shh you didn't hear that).

i''m not on the books' side, but i'd say those in this example are fairly balanced-- they're likely receiving so, so much action on US from us(we) fish..., that why risk exposure...they may not be taking in much on anyone else...

Now, if you feel they're able to lay off in Europe to their great advantage, and should pass some of that along...
