Our federal government is responsible for
1) military and national security
2) infrastructure
3) postal service
4) international trade
and little else
States should be responsible for healthcare, education. gambling laws, drug laws and 90% of government.
The best thing the federal government can do is stay out of the way. Career politicians are closer to being clueless fucking idiots than they are problem solvers, they tend to be blinded by the Beltway Fog, they're delusional. And their results reflect just that
The beauty of states rights is this. You can have 50 different solutions, some will succeed and some will fail. Eventually, the failures will be eliminated and the good policies will spread to other states. Furthermore, citizens have more direct control over their own politicians, and assholes like Nancy Pelosi will have little influence over states that dislike her extreme left policies.
