The TV team for the women's gymnastics competition have also been incredibly inappropriate with their continually questioning the age of the Chinese girls. It completely undermines the performance of the girls to keep bringing that garbage up. The IOC found them to be of age. The end. Just disgraceful to keep commenting on that shit.

All kidding aside, if the Chinese athletes don't win in certain events (gymnastics, table tennis, to name a couple) are they banished to a remote area of China to work in labor camps like the former Soviet athletes were banished to Siberia?

Don't know about that, but on the way home I was listening to sportstalk and Ted Robinson was on. Was talking about the divers. Apparently they are taken from their homes when they are young and put in training camps in Beijing. They see their families 10 days per year and the Chinese govt told their families not to come to the Olympics b/c they would be a distraction. Fuck China.

Is MSNBC really showing a replay of Nadal rather than showing Blake (an American) live?

Is this match on somewhere else?

Say what you want about the networks erratic and inconsistent olympic coverage, however, I have to give them credit for NBC.com and the Olympic coverage on that site. They have events on delay, highlights and even live events. Sure a lot of the live events have no audio commentary, but who cares, it is way better than in years past when you couldn't watch two good hoop teams like Lithuania and Argentina go at it...

I must say with the swimming, bball, boxing and greco-roman I am thoroughly enjoying these Olympics.....Phelps and the boys winning the 100x4 relay was a great moment...

Olympic Boxing has turned into Fencing with boxing gloves. Not the same sport it used to be. Not even close.

Sure, TV channels thinks that people just want to watch the sports that are more mainstream, it will be nice if they had an olympics channel, I'll pay for it

Wasn't it always the case? I don't follow amateur boxing much, but it always looked precisely like what you describe, fencing with boxing gloves. Guy who lands a meaningful and perfectly clean punch gets a point, and that's pretty much all there is to it.

No it hasn't. Only for the last 2-3 olympics. Back in the day of Sugar Ray Leonard, Roy Jones they Slugged it out. Each judge would come up with theirown result. None of this if 3 out 5 judges squeeze the trigger than it counts as a point. Matt you must be young to not remember the old olympic boxing rules.

Yeah, don't recall much before '92 - I was 9 in '88. But it makes sense now that you mention it... the Roy Jones robbery would've been pretty much impossible if the current scoring system was used, since he was landing clean punches at will.
