Greetings ladies and gents. Its been several months since I last visited the ole RX. I quit gambling about 6 months or so ago, but was a very active member for a few years. Figured I would stop in and say hey to some of my pals and see how everyone is. I remember about 11 months ago I posted a thread stating I had 30 days clean and sober but was still actively gambling....I went back and re-read the thread and found it somewhat amusing, both by some of my posts and some of the thread participants.

My life has changed in the past year and I am proud to announce that I am starting back to school Sept 2nd after a 15 year layoff. I am getting into the radiology field after about 15 years of resteurant business. Getting sober from booze and clean from cocaine has been the hardest thing I have ever done and remains a one day at a time reprieve. i thought things in life would change a great deal, and to some degree they have, but life is what it is. The important thing is I have changed somewhat and at least I dont have drug and drunk problems.

Anyway, I am still chipping away and trying to grow as a spiritual person. Doing the next right thing has never really been a problem, but stringing a bunch of "the next right things" has been my weekness. I am happy to say I am a honest productive member of society these days. This site has always been good to me and is a part of my story so I figured I would revisit and let my friends here know I am doing well. As of Monday, August 18th I have been clean and sober for one year.

God Bless,
Mark

very admirable, mark. i went into treatment january of this year for 3 months. i've been doing very well, also, except i do drink occasionally now. it looks like i've overcome the hard drug addiction and i'm slowly getting my self confidence back.

best of luck in the future and keep it up, man.

It amazes me the number of people that pass through this site with either a gambling, drug, or drinking problem. I guess in some people's minds this is a good place for a cry for help. Very sad. Good Luck

You dont get to this site without a gambling-drug- or alcohol problem. We all have something fucked up with us which is why we're doing this. It isn't called a vice for no reason.

what a long strange trip it's been, always appreciate your honesty and straightforwardness on the board and i'm glad to see things going well. i think i speak for many of the old timers when i say we are genuinely happy to see you doing so well, you've had a rough trip the last few years and deserve all the good things that will soon come your way. stay in touch and in parting i'd like to say:bunnies::bunnies::bunnies: for ole times sake.

BIGSHOTMAXX,

Nice work my friend. I've got just over 30 days and I was dealt a major blow 3 days ago as my best friend and father passed away from lung cancer. He was 3 weeks shy of his 11th year of sobriety. I see that now is the time that spirituality is the most important. I'll go to my first meeting tonight since his passing. I've been gifted that people in the program have gone out of their way to do anything for my family. Its truely helping each other when we shine the most.
A very big congratulations to you on your one year celebration. I look forward to that mark, moving closer one day at a time. Everyday I wake I pray that I don't pick up, don't use, and do the next right thing. So far so good. I just can't pick up the first drink and all will be well. My sponsor has been great in working with me, and I'm sure yours as well. We can't give away what we don't have. Keep up the great work and continue to take it one day at a time. I'm sure you've already seen some awesome things in your life as a result of not picking up. I also am working on the demon of alcohol and cocaine. Today, and just for today I won't use and hope you do the same. Take care, and when in Florida look me up and we can attend a meeting together or meet for some coffee or soda.
