M, it's always good to hear about someone Winning.
We all have different paths and ways to modify previously losing behavior patterns. But something we all have in common is that our lives suck when we don't learn and apply better patterns.
Actively working recovery with fellow abusers over a six year period helped lay the foundation for my life today which is virtually free of the many core negative behaviors which fueled my previous desires to harm myself through substance abuse.
I say "virtually" because even today I still catch myself wanting to play with anger, resentment, hatred and other fears which impeded love and forgiveness.
But with the tools I was given during active recovery I quickly enough move away from that thinking that I've not engaged in self destructive substance use since Oct 1995.
Met my current wife about 14 months after that date and she quickly became my biggest supporter.
And after less than three years hanging around with my wacky ass, she herself broke a 20 year addiction to tobacco.
Keep goin' back to hang with the right people.
And remember that any time you feel the urge to pick up, well - you can always pick up....Tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Today you can be a winner.
Cheers from Clearwater
Steve
