Bump as we get closer to the season. Follow me and win money. The best part about it is that I won't charge for them after the profitable season. The second part about it is that these picks will win me lots of beer money for NFL Sundays.

As usual Iowa State will still be slow and talentless in the defensive backfield this year, but I don't think Iowa will be able to take advantage of them like the high octane Big 12 offenses did last season..But I look for the ISU offense to possibly be much improved. So they could score enough points here to keep the game interesting for awhile, if not at least keep it within the line. This game has been a no-brainer for me for the last few years. I just take ISU and let it ride. As bad as they are, they somehow find a way to keep it close. And Iowa finds a way to fuk things up. They were actually a little lucky to beat ISU at home last season. I remember that game well..It was was closer than the 17-5 score. Iowa scored 14 of their points in the 4th quarter. And ISU outgained them by almost 100 yards. But turned the ball over 3 times. Which killed them. So just give me ISU and double digits this season and I'm a happy camper.

Iowa State got Florida RB transfer Bo Williams who was an absolute stud in HS. He never played at UF but from what I hear he will be heavily in the rotation at running back. I know Iowa State has one good back now and adding Williams will be big for them. Personally, I think Iowa State will cover a lot of spreads.

Iowa State also has 4 returning OL and their OL this year averages 328lbs, simply incredible. The new OC, Tom Herman formerly at Rice, has indicated that returning QB Arnaud is well suited for the new spread offense. The defense is the big question mark and they will rely on a lot of zone-blitzes to help make up for their lack of speed on that side of the ball. Their only wins were against S. Dakota St and Kent St. I think the new HC, Rhoads, is a godsend and new DC Wally Burham (did good things at USF) will do everything he can to help a defense that gave up 35.8ppg ly. I think they will be a good ATS club this year and it would not surprise me if they eaked out 6 wins this year as they blew 4 winnable games LY including against Kansas.
They may give Iowa all they want in week 2 (they are 10-1 ATS against Iowa in their last 11 games)
I think you are right that Williams at who I found listed at 6'1" and 217 will give Iowa State a big boost.

Iowa State has not had a major problem on offense. Their problem is on defense, and even though they return 6, none of them are very good. The defensive line is very small. The LB's need to step up their games, and the secondary needs to see major improvment. They should be able to do well against teams that have offensive question marks, but the teams that are talented on offense will bury them. They may get 4 wins, but three of those are against non-con cream puffs.

Fellas...Like I've stated about Iowa State in a couple other threads, it's all about defense with this team. They are very slow on that side of the ball. And it was HC Rhodes number one concern when he first got into camp and looked at his new team. I'm not at all worried about their offense because I think they're going to light it up on that side of the ball and cover a lot of those big double digit spreads. But they are still more than likely one year away from having a bowl type of season. As for RB Williams that was mentioned here, I think the other RB Robinson is one of the most underrated backs in the Big 12. And is a very good all purpose player. By the way I think Paul Rhodes is definitely the right man for this job. And unlike Gene Chizik, he looks like he's there to make ISU a winning program, instead of using them as a stepping stone to his next job. So something tells me he's going to be a good one.

Jake...Sorry to hijack your thread. This stuff should be mentioned in the Big 12 threads. I'm looking forward to your thoughts on Boise and the WAC this season.

Well, it's been 2 months. Let's see some of the team writeups. Have you bet any ncaa futures or win totals?

Let me see if I can get some spare time. My workload for the sports writing stuff is going through the roof with the NFL season getting started.

What was your last seasons record ?????

Thanks.........

Furthest back I have records on is 4 years. One of which I half-assed and did not commit myself and it was the only one with a tiny loss after like 50 plays before I realized I wasn't as into it as I needed to be.

Overall Record: 320-263 (54.8%) +66.08 Units
2-UNIT PLAYS: 59-30 (66.3%)

2-Unit plays are as big as I go.
