Driving while measureably impaired by alcohol is certainly in most cases more risky than driving while not impaired by alcohol.
But most people would likely be shocked at how relatively rare it is for a legally drunk (0.08 bac or higher) driver to cause harm to themselves or to others.
Me? I play the preferred odds and don't operate a motor vehicle if I'm measureably impaired. But I don't burn much energy ragging on people who might do otherwise. If they've made the dubious choice to behave like that, they'll get whatever consequences follow. Which, as I first stated, is usually nothing at all because nothing of note happens between the time they get behind the wheel and the time they get out of the car at their destination.

I've only driven on acid a couple times, many years ago.
One night at about 4am, drove from a party to my house and there was this one winding street I had to take that had cars parked on both sides most of the day. So I had to of course take care to stay in the middle and also make the needed turns to match the curving road.
It seemed to take about ten minutes to get to the end.
Next day I drove back down same street in daylight while straight and it was about a quarter mile curve.

Ameatuer day is day like Cinco De Mayo or St. Paddy's day where people who usually don't go out to drink, do so, becuase it's 'the thing to do'.
Most of these people can't handle the shots and beer, etc. etc. usually get loud, or worse, like puking on your shoes or whatever.
Nothing like going home and sidestepping piles of 'cement chowder'.
I've lost a couple of loved friends in motor vehicle accidents involving drivers impaired by alcohol.
It doesn't change the mathematical fact that such incidents are in fact incredibly rare when weighed against the number of people who operate a motor vehicle after using the drug alcohol.
I used to train with cop and one night coming back from some muay thai fights he was pointing out all the drunk guys on the road. Said something like more than half the people on the road after midnight had a least a bit of booze in their system. The cops just pull the ones obviously f'd up. He said they could be busy all night pulling drivers over if they wanted...
