I don't need a whole lot of money to be happy. Not to say I don't have any or have a great-paying job but as I get older I worry less and less about money and pay more attention to what matters the most.

I'd rather have it than not. It might not make you happier but it sure helps alleviate a lot of stress when it's available.

Excellent point. Presuming one wishes to be retired from full time work by 65, that leaves 20+ years of average life span you'll need to support.

I would like to have enough money that once the kids are gone my wife and I can travel and gamble with no worries. If the kids need some money I have enough to help them out with no worries.

Bottomline is I'd rather have too much than not enough.

Poor health and feeble minds are the worst bad beat you will ever be dealt. They can and will destroy your entire bankroll. My father and step-mom ran up close to $1,200,000 in medical bills over a six year period. Thankfully, his health insurance paid almost the entire tab. Be prepared.

And that makes it an even dozen for the number of times Barmway has brought up how little mods make here.

Lost count on how many times he's passively thrown out the fact that he's joined the Amway family in hopes of reeling in a recruit or two.

Just drop me a PM and I'll add you to the team

I need my Friends to lobby the Rx Management to jack us up to over $2 so that on nights when I'm not winning with my sports wagers I can pay my internet bill.

The insurance is the key. Could blow thru your money pretty fast.

I'm 49 and honestly feel that with continuing advances in medicine and physical health sciences, by the time I reach the current avg male lifespan of 80, the new average lifespan will be 90+.

So if I want to have a base set by 55 (like you too), then $1million would only work out to less than $30K per year.

And if I were using just the interest on a million invested and if I could rely on 10% annual, then that's only about $70K

I like your suggestion of a million at age 55, but would want to have perpetual revenues of at least $100K per year on top of that.

Rational thinkers are wise starting sometime in your 60s to have a sensibly prepared Exit Strategy in the event of terminal illness.

A peaceful and pain-free suicide costs at most a couple hundred bucks for the right pharmaceutical cocktail and that's far smarter than letting you and your family's finances be ravaged for hundreds of thousands, or even millions of dollars in vain efforts to extend life an extra six to 12 months.

Just sayin'
