I can only speak for myself.

I do happen to appreciate that Senator Obama is not so audacious as to state that he knows "when life begins".

Senator McCain believes it's at conception and thus promotes the arrest, prosecution and imprisonment of any American female who elects to terminate a pregnancy from the moment of conception forward.

I think we can agree that we all learned a bit more about McCain's belief in the nanny-state government last night.

1) It's not a baby. It's a fetus. Fetuses do not have civil rights in The United States of America.

1a) Abortion advocates (I am an enthusiastic proponent of abortion when a woman wants it) do not give a shit about the fetus being terminated. I am only interested in the rights of the female carrying it.

2) Third trimester abortions occur about 2000 times a year in the USA and in nearly all cases it is to protect the health of the pregnant female. Those of us more concerned with the health of the pregnant female are grateful that such procedures are not illegal and that those involved do not face criminal sanctions.

Furthermore, when a couple is expecting, we don't say "How's your fetus?", we ask "How's your baby?"

The word 'fetus' in itself is fabricated legalese, used only when an unborn child becomes an inconvenience for the pregnant mom. Only then does the definition change. Heh, go figure. :think2:

It's all intellectually dishonest sanitized political spin -- as is the term "pro-choice?" WTF is "pro-choice"?

Choice for what? Choice to do the laundry or the dishes? They don't even tell you what the woman is choosing!

The only way someone can be charged with killing a fetus in the USA is if the female carrying it intended to carry it to term.

If the pregnant female herself decides to kill the fetus, there's no criminal penalty in The United States of America.

As for the former example, it's dubious if such a criminal charge could withstand constitutional challenge. But we won't know until someone convicted of such a crime makes that challenge.

MARK, as someone who is very pro-abortion, I've personally no shame in calling a fetus a fetus.

The lucky fetuses are those whose carriers agree to carry them to term at which time they become Real Live Human Beings.

The unlucky fetuses are those who are miscarried and/or terminated by their carrier.

Leading us to at least one point of common agreement among the friendly fraternity here - We're likely all glad that we're not fetuses.

Likely a good time to note that the majority of abortions don't even involve a 'fetus', but rather simply dispose of an embryo.

Medically, an embryo does not develop into the first stages of a fetus until about week 8 or 9.
