how many pairs of socks are you supposed to wear when hiking?

I was told to at least double up, but it seems that i need to wear at least three so that the blisters don't surface.

My favorite number at the track is 69 although I haven't gotten out there lately. Last time I went I got stopped by a cop for speed hiking while wearing 6 pairs of socks, and luckily he just gave me a warning. I had just came from a store after buying Blueberry Pop Tarts which are my favorite.
