It's ridiculous to say anything other than this guy is hopelessly over his head. Throw out the clock management in the 4th, the sideline is a mess.
His MO is going to be delegating to his coordinators, and that's fine, but the head coach is not even on the headset or in the huddle on the deciding play of the entire game? Les Miles at LSU delegates his offense to Gary Crowton, but he's involved in those decisions and situations if nothing else to know what is going on.
As far as the offense, you should review their average yards per carry from the I-formation in the game compared to average yards in the spread. They had negative yardage from this formation in the game, and yet this is what they go to in the key play to decide the game after it had failed all 4 times previously. Now I'm willing to cut the OC some slack since it's his first year calling plays, but the head coach doesn't even bother to enter the discussion about what to do to and that's pathetic.
Here we can also review the wisdom of bringing in a new OC with different philosophy and terminology to take over a highly successful offense, especially when the entire rationale of promoting someone from the staff was continuity. Instead, the guy changes the system and they can't get score more than 14 points against a mediocre defense in a game that goes overtime.
I've seen firsthand a coach this over his head destroy a successful program, and Bill Stewart will tear this program to the ground in less than 3 years even in a weak conference. Anyone who wants the opposite side of that bet, let me know and we can discuss terms.
