First of all, I don't want to be one. I'm wondering how a newbie tout operates. The guy that doesn't cap just markets.

There must be thousands of them already, some pretty slick. The general public must have an inkling they are BS. Do they fool the public into believing they are " the one" ?

I can understand how a Fezzik can get people to pay, He can demonstrate a record at SSB, and has a media presence.

How does the real con man( the guy that doesn't believe his picks are worth betting himself, just looking for a quick buck), get people ? Heavy advertising in USA Today, etc. ? I think this business idea has peaked. Does shouting on the phone add credability ? Do regular people know of lots of people making a killing on sports ?The "regular" people must be the targets.

I just fail to see how these guys can get enough revenue to even cover their advertising and overhead expenses, and show a worthwhile return for their dubious time investment.

Hopefully we see less of these guys in the future, they help to give offshore wagering a negatively prejudiced stigma which we don't need.

I know of very few touts I consider to be honest, less than 5. I don't buy anyone's picks, but will follow some guys in sports I'm unfamiliar with.

Never list your long-term winning rate.

If you do, you won't get any subscribers.

9 in 10 sports services cannot hit 55% ATS. 99%, when asked (or pressed for a number) will say they have hit/expect to hit a win rate above this level. The public fails to realize:

1. How hard it is to win in the longrun at 55%

2. How much money can be made with a 55% win rate and most importantly that

3. Any tout who can pick 58% on a high volume of games (highly doubtful there are ANY out there) has lost his mind wasting his time on marketing/advertising/etc. since once he had any capital he basically has a printing press to make money.

There are much more than 5 services that can help make you money. You just have to do the research, check the guys out, and do your part shopping/taking advantage of good numbers.

For example just this week a well known tout said "OT at +650 looks good, the price is right". W(H?)ell, as Hapy Gillmore says "THE PRICE IS WRONG BOB". Anyone even thinking of subscribing to a guy making this bad a statement is demonstrating a complete lack of ability to evaluate the true experts out there. Go to any sharp web site, and the sharp posters are all going to dogpile on this statement, laughing at how horrific a statement it is (here an "expert" recommends a +650 play on a 20-1 dog). Is he getting kickbacks from the books? It's mind boggling.

Yet people subscribe to guys like this. And when they see an honest winning service advertise 55%, they reject it "those guys aren't that good". Mind boggling.

So, Fez, where all the suckers coming from ? I've pasted your valid 60% arguement a few times, but you didn't really answer the question. You're in my five, BTW.

like any other business:

advertise ... buy a list of gamblers and get some phone boys to pitch the hype:

INSIDE INFO
STEAM PLAY
THE SYNDICATE JUST UNLOADED
MY BOSS JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE
WE HAVE NEVER RELEASED THIS HIGH OF RATED PLAY
I NORMALLY MOVE 5 DIMES PER GAME .. THIS IS A 20 DIME MOVE FOR ME

Easy. I don't know if he's new, but just follow streetsmart's recent thread. Duh.

I now understand how difficult it is to do business. The advertising agents certainly are. I've decided to make my own website and I'm thinking about starting to use text message marketing. I think it's expensive to buy advertising these days. Especially for developing an online business.

You post in the offshore thread saying that you are up 10k

Turn that 10k into 15k

Then risk 7k on a heavy favorite and, oh wait

stumbled across this thread and like to chime in on how i started...been in service since 1997....being a canadian sports handiacpper might be different than an american one...back in the day opened a 1-900 number where people call the number to get my pre recorderd picks for the day,,remember this is before the internet,,so it was different to advertise etc...i would have free pick lines across the country...as it was cheaper than an 800 line at the time...my main target group was in the Toronto area...so i would have a 1 by 2 inch ad in the toronto sun, every saturday, and when was nfl season, saturday, sunday and monday, at that time..advertising was 250 on a saturday, 350 on a sunday and 250 on a monday...as well when opened website back in the day...you would have sportsbooks wanting to put there banner on your webpage and from that, for every new client you get for the sportsbook signup, you would get a commision..
so my main way to get clients was print advertising...
been doing this forever and soon its time to hang it up and move on to the next chapter of my life, if any of you's want tips on how to start or have questions on how to operate a sports handicapping service, send me email through here or my website,,again i dont mind helping out...
