Ridden by J.J. Gonzales, the 2-year-old gelding broke perfectly from the No. 8 post position, grabbed the lead two jumps out of the gate and then hit the wire just ahead of the filly Dash of Perry.
The win was worth $1 million for owners Nahum and Rosella Prieto of Chihuahua, Mexico.
"It's been my husband's dream to win this race since he was a young man and at the age of 77, he realized it," Rosella Prieto said in a tumultuous winner's circle filled with about 200 friends and family members of the winning owners, jockey and trainer Juan Gonzalez.

Velazquez wins again
John Velazquez rode Shoal Water to a 2 1/4-length victory in the Grade III $100,000 Saranac Handicap, extending his record for wins on the final day of the Saratoga meet in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
It was Velazquez's 61st winner of the 35-day meet, breaking Jerry Bailey's record of 55 set in 2001.
Azeri's next race named
Azeri, the reigning Horse of the Year and winner of 11 consecutive races, will make her next start Sept. 28 in the Lady's Secret Handicap at Santa Anita in Del Mar, Calif.
After considering other options, owner Michael Paulson and trainer Laura de Seroux chose to keep Azeri in California for her final prep before the Breeders' Cup.
