Just got back last night from the Honduras trip.
Just want to say that there is some TERRIBLE advice in this thread.
Anyone interested in going to Honduras, don't be a pussy (like most of the commentor's in this thread) and go. The place is beautiful w/ lots to do...especially diving.
We stayed 3 nights on the mainland and went white water rafter/rock jumping, hiking to waterfalls, and hanging out at a nice rainforest resort....then went over to Roatan for 4 nights.
Sure, the mainland had some shady areas....so be careful. Roatan is very modern. It used to be part of the British Caribbean islands so English is the first language for most of the islanders (Roatan could easily be it's own country). Yes, they try to get the tourists for every dollar than can....but the place is very nice. A lot of ex-pats. You can do it very expensive or very cheap. The cruise ships come in and the place gets crowded for a few hours. It's only a 2 hour flight to Miami....and there are direct flights from several US cities, including Houston.
Really enjoyed the trip...
