been spending the holidays far from civilization, so haven't watched any races for almost a week. was a bit disappointed to see the sparse activity in this forum, but let's see if we can get some things going today, in a very very nice card today at hollywood. i'm rested and ready to go.
r2: fairly valued. i loved refocus last week, and he ran better than expected but couldn't beat professional maiden steeleon season. now, i'm taking a stand against likley heavy favorite chadwicks well and backing a horse that i normally wouldn't touch- it's a very bad bet to back a horse making his first start off the shelf routing on dirt, but this is such an empty field, i'll take a shot that zucker has this one ready to fire today.
r5: spoonman. this an average group of 12.5 claimers, and spoonman is another comebacker i'm playing today with kevin krigger. if 'spoon can stay close, i like his chances.
r6: all the wiseguys are on musical chimes in the matriarch, who should run better without the blinkers as that one got very very rank in the BC f&m turf. well, she smells like an underlay to me, but i like maiden tower, who ran her eyes out in the qe2 at keeneland. she's got speed and should be able to overcome her poor post position.
r7: licari. i'll take a swing with a fairly profitable angle and back licari, who goes routing on turf to sprinting on dirt. i look for him to be making a huge huge run from off the pace.
r9: urban king. this is a great renewal of the hollywood derby. these 3 yos are improving leaps and bounds, even at the end of the year and i always prefer backing lightly raced animals. urban king looks to have developed over the short break and i look for him to have a breakout race in here. the post stinks, but it's a long race and hopefully pval can get him to relax a bit early.
