I'm taking my kids to Disneyworld and we're booked at the one of the Disney Hotels for like $500 a night. I've heard these places are shitholes...but great for kids. Well the kids get Disneyworld and Epcot.

Is there any nice joints nearby not apart of Disney?

I stay well away from Kissimee bro, anything Disney related or even that Pleasantville they have set up there gives me serious nightmares.

I'm about 45 minutes away in Winter Park where I've only been a few months since I got out of Tampa. Twice I've been to Disney area, once for the beer festival they had and another when my girl got free tickets for her nephews @ UCF and really just chilled in their Downtown Disney area.

If you plan to escape in a rental I might got some ideas.

WC -let me start by saying this is not a stalking post I just happen to live about an hour from Orlando

I am not sure how old your kids are but got two with a pretty big spread in age and we go to Orlando twice a year.

A hotel I would recommend highly is the Hyatt Grand Cypress. Awesome pool for the kids with slides and waterfalls. Great service, great food(even for guys who arent fat), etc. They also have things for the kids like smores at night, horseback riding, even babysitting if you want a dinner with the wife.

Not sure what time of year you are going but usually go for 250 to 350 a night.

As far as the Disney hotels Grand Floridian is the best of the bunch but I think they are all over priced and all pretty beat down for what you get.

I have lived in a hotel in Orlando during the week for the last 8 months and know many of the Marriott properties.

There are some Marriott Vacation Club International (MVCI) properties down there as well that are more like condos.

500 a night is pretty hight for Orlando. You could stay at JW Marrriot or Marriott Worldcenter for that much...

Let me know what you are looking for and I might be able to help...

Check out Embassy Suites. Good rooms, comp breakfast (not continental), free beer and wine from 4-6 and prices pretty good.

Yeah Gaylord Palms is nice but figured the name alone would turn this thread ugly.

Totally agree. A hotel is a place to sleep and swim. Thats it. When you travel its about where you spend your dollars. I dont care if you can afford 500 a night, does not make sense. Just like gambling, money management.

Disney is the biggest ripoff there is. There are ways to save but do not fall into the 2 for 1 scams where you waste 4 hours of your free time getting pressured into buying a timeshare.

I have travelled all over the world for 36 years and only need a comfortable bed, clean shower, and maybe a couple amenities. I have never had to pay full price (airline discounts) but for the dollar Embassy gives you the most.

All inclusives are another thing where service is most important. Spend the savings on meals at fine restaurants or things for the kids.

Enjoy your trip wherever you choose.

Thanks to everyone...I'm definitely checking out some of the other options. WVU....no doubt $500 a night is rediculous...we're spending the rest of the week in Siesta Keys and I think the other four nights total is $750 and that is a beachfront condo.

The disney hotel is the Polynesian? I had heard this was one of the better places, but then our neighbor told us all the disney hotels are shitholes and we'd find better accommodations nearby. I hope I can get my money back.

Just Checked...Gaylord Palms is $577 for a non-view room...$777 for a view room...thanks

There are so many amazing and beautiful places to see and explore in the world, yet millions of people insist on going to Disney World and be herded around like cattle waiting in line for rides.

My kids think you're a jerk, but I totally agree. Unfortunately they don't quite get the importance of a waterfall, the beauty of a beach in the French Riviera, or the awe of the Eiffel Tower.

FYI I have a 3 bedroom home in Marco Island that I rent from Halloween to Easter. Great place with a pool, 1 block from the beach. Not a real kids place though. Good dining, a few sports bars, great beach, and many Europeans.

Where is Marco Island? I'm cool with Euros as long as they aren't sporting banana hammocks or going topless with nasty saggy tities

Just outside of Naples just north of Miami. Use mapquest. Its on the gulf, very relaxing. The reason I say Euros is that I rent to many of them. There are much more Canadians and snowbirds. Great place to chill, eat, and enjoy the sun.

Good family enviornment but not for the big party people.
