Well, took your advice and filed a SCH A.

My CPA filed an admendment for 2003 to allow me to deduct itemizied deductions(SHC A.) on my State return(this in return got me an extra 1K or so). The biggest number on the return was my gambling losses.

Today, I get a letter stating my State return admendment is being audited:scared2:

Now, I will be contacted within 30 days by my auditor.

Spoke with my CPA. She said they are probably wanting proof of my gambling losses last year, which i do have documented with machine number, dates, and times and vaired games, and casino play.

Just busting your balls, hope everything turns out good for me, at least I feel it will. Hopefully i will get my 1K that is owed.

I believe my State Return is possibly being audited also, as they have not cashed my payment check yet and it has been well over 30 days.

Like you, I am not worried, as I have my gambling records very neat and well organized.

Yeap, it was well over 30 days, but you still have some time, mine was like 2.5 months. Last year, mine took 40 days for them to cash, i think. I get this letter. Except I am awaiting a refund!:103631605

My only concern is showing losses in sports. Will you just state what lost on sportsgambling/casino play/ and lottery(yes, i do play the lottery at times):drink:

Although Florida is a STATE INCOME TAX FREE state, I have other income in various states that do have state income tax, thus I have to file state returns in those states.

Fish:

I just went through my records. I started getting serious with gambling around September 2003, so my records for 2003 are not that accurate.

When I deducted my losses it was more of an estimation than anything else. And god knows I have lost my fair share, so I estimated I lost about a 1/3rd or a little less of my winnings for that year.

What can they do really? How many gamblers out there keep accurate diaries? let me quote, I do now, and have since 9/03. I didnt really know anything about all the record keeping until I started reading.

I guess all I can do is if they want records give them what I have, and explain the situation, and pay if I must.

But in reality, I think I have lost much more than what I claimed.

I also have bank statements showing numerous withdrawals at casinos. Yeah, it doesnt show that I lost that money there, but I have amounts in 5 figures. And back in 2003, I barely won.
