Although we were impressed with the fight of the Bears in Washington last week, we see no way of how they will keep up with the improved Lion squad. Many league pundits have predicted the Lions to be the upstart team in the NFC in 2005 and they very well may be right. The improvement of the Lions is due to their defense – traditionally in years past their achillies heel. With an tough defensive line and active young secondary, they are going to give young rookie Kyle Orton headaches with their various blitz schemes. We cant see the Bears reaching the endzone more than once in this contest.

The Lions wont score at will, but we think that their young skill players will make enough plays to reach the endzone twice. Look for Mike Williams and Roy Williams to exploit the undersized Bears secondary. Play action passing will be a key area of execution for the Lions in an effort to neutralize Brian Urlacher. You will see RB Kevin Jones early and often, but as the game progresses, the Lions will move away from their running game and look to stretch the field with their young WR’s.

Not a blowout, as the Bears hang tough, but the Lions easily cover the 2 point spread.

You can tell me whatever you want to about credibility, but I utilized the term "lock" to attract folks to read the post. Hopefully they can benefit from the time spent on analyzing this week's contests and take advantage of the free selection.

I guess I didnt read in the rules that you cant use LOCK as a term. Ease up chief.

Anyways, back to what's important, and that is this week's contests. I feel the Lions are a stellar play. Every year, and I am talking EVERY year, 2-3 upstart teams in each conference play exceptionally well football, most time under the radar of much of the media, and in my opinion the Lions are in this club in the NFC this season.

Similar to the Chargers a year ago, the Lions play in a weak division, and face only one true threat and that is the Vikes. The Bears are a JOKE on offense. Thomas Jones and Kyle Orton dont strike fear in the hearts of defensive coordinators. But have you seen Kevin Jones play football lately? Mike & Roy & Charlie arent too bad either...

I can't stress how important last week's game was to the mindset of the Lions. Did you see them after the game? Have you read the local paper? Confidence breeds winning. And this year's Lions team is a confident bunch.

I know the Bears have a tough D. That's why if you look at the prediction, the game is fairly low scoring. But giving less than 3 is an absolute gimme.

Again I say, and I dont give a rat's ass about your opinion of my credibility, it's a STONE COLD LOCK.

Betting on a road favorite and calling it a lock...this should be in the newbie room because evreryone here is laughing at you and your pick regardless of whether or not it wins. Road favorites are never a lock.

dear mr expert,

i went to your website for a quick laugh. i have to say it is a little better than most of the moron touts i see on here each year. with that being said, please, please, please stop with the lying....you have posted a 5 year ats record with yearly records between 66% and 70% winners with about 3 selections per week......let me give you a little advise....you are really going to get rocked at this forum, so please stay for a while so i can get a good laugh in each and every day...also, who monitors your so called picks over the past 5 years?....if you are a real gambler and a true handicapping superstar then you are going to love this little proposition i have come up with....how about i put up $3000 and you put up $1000...then you pick 3 games every week during the nfl season (using lines posted at a reputable offshore book)....if you hit 65% (this of course would be a down year for you) then you win......are you in?...if so let me know and we can probably find someone who will hold our money until about the 12th week of the season when it will become mathematically impossible for you to win....trust me when i say that this is no gimmick....i will put my money where my mouth is......how about you?

by the way....i like detroit also.

good luck!

Please bet the bears if you feel inclined. I think it is a foolish wager for many reasons but if you think it is a higher percentage play than the Lions then go for it. Best of luck.

And sorry to tell you, I steer clear of letting strangers hold my money. Its a basic rule that has seemed to have worked well over the years. Im enjoying hearing you guys rant and rave etc, but honestly, why doesent soemone post an insightful and well written synopsis? I'd love to hear it. I'd love to hear someone break down some matchups with intelligent logic. Unfortunately, its few and far between from what Ive seen.
