To me, definitely. He alerted me to a number of frauds over the years. I've been reading him for 15+ years - back when he was with the San Fran paper. Cramer thought he was the best in the biz and brought Herb over to thestreet.com back in '97 or so. Then Herb went off over to marketwatch.com after his private newsletter @ tscm didn't selll to good.
He has terrific sources. Not all of his calls are right, but he'll spot a number of great calls. LHSP was a rocket - complete fraud that was shorted down to zero. It was a Tyco/Enron situation...
If you don't trade a lot or don't short (I short so he's worth it; I want to examine my long positions if he writes some compelling info on a stock). Keep in mind that a lot of his info is coming from short sellers who want the stock to crater. But short-sellers have to be better than the average joe, just because the market is so stacked against the short sellers.
