Amelia Island, Florida: Justine Henin-Hardenne came between Conchita Martinez and a major milestone in the Bausch & Lomb Championships on Thursday.
Henin-Hardenne prevented Martinez from notching her 700th career win, rallying for a 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory over the Spanish veteran to reach the quarter-finals.
Martinez took the first set from the top-ranked Belgian and was up a break in the second before Henin-Hardenne stormed back to remain undefeated in six meetings with Martinez.
Henin-Hardenne, 21, has lost only once in 25 games this season and won the Australian Open in January. She now faces eighth-seeded Russian Vera Zvonareva, who beat Patty Schnyder.
Australia's Alicia Molik trailed American Lindsay Davenport 4-6, 5-5 when rain ended play for the night. The winner will face Paola Suarez of Argentina.
Serena Williams continued her torrid comeback, the second seed defeating Karolina Sprem of Croatia, 6-1, 7-5 for her 15th straight win dating to last season.
Williams returned to competitive tennis two weeks ago after eight months out following knee surgery and captured the prestigious Miami title. Next up for her is seventh seed Nadia Petrova of Russia, a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Petra Mandula.
Former champion Amelie Mauresmo dispatched Czech qualifier Barbora Strycova 6-3, 6-4. The third-seeded Mauresmo is playing her first tournament in nine weeks after suffering a back injury at the Australian Open.
Her quarter-final foe will be Silvia Farina Elia of Italy, who defeated Croatia's Jelena Kostanic 6-2, 6-2.
