Thanx in advance for any assistance

i have a computer running XP and ie7. i had another computer for email and websurfing and used this 1 only for poker...now im making this 1 my main computer and getting a new 1 for poker.

Outlook had never been run or maybe even downloaded for all i know..when i tried to set up my mail the 1st problem i have is there is no icon for outlook anywhere.serached everywhere, just take my word for it..it isnt there..
but if i type in msimn.exe it opens...outlook express 6.0...

Now when i open it several more problems occur
1st everytime i open it, it has lost my server name and all my previous emails...the name of the server actually changes to something else!!!! its supposed to be pop.east.cox.net but it changes to east.cox.east.net!!!!!!!
Then when i do try to open it it also opens AIM instant messenger which again i have never used....this i remember being a part of some virus years ago but as the mail has never been used how could it be infected??? the only email in there is the welcome email from microsoft..

Im guessing i need to totally remove it and start over but i have no disc...mine is a compaq with all those files in the computer itself and i have no idea how to access the part i need. these are the .cab files i believe...

beside just jumping in the lake and getting it over with ( a viable option actually) what can i do to correct this??:think2:

ok lets go by parts

first remove outlook express.........(do you have a lot of emails to backup? hopefully not otherwise search for *dbx files and copy them somewhere safe)

assuming this is an xp machine

go to add/remove programs THEN the important part, click on add/remove windows components......uncheck it and finish that part.....it will remove OE

at that point you can try either to do the same, add/remove windows compnents this time check OE and add it back, it will hopefully not ask you for anything

another option would be to go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com and see if it shows in the stuff that you can add

When you have OE reloaded run "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" to have you mail copied from your old "mail" computer to the new one. You can find it under All Programs, Accessories, System Tools.
