Was supposed to go to St George Island for spring break. It obviously got cancelled and we re-scheduled for August 15-29. Anyone know what SGI looks like now?

Is this a set up? Are you serious?

My parents lived there for 30 years. I have made it my 2nd home countless visits. Its not big and out of the way so I am a bit leary you know of it. But if you are on the up and up I got all you need so ask away.

If you want normal life go there. No masks. No distancing. Wonderful beach the water and sand are perfect. People are super friendly. You want the numbers? For Franklin county as of today - 108 cases. 1 death. I've been posting that many times here to show people that Florida is not in a crisis. Let me know if you want to know more.

Heard the ice cream store shut down.

I think Facebook is for children, but my wife like most women are on it. She found a SGI group that had all kind of useful information. Try that.

Not a set up at all, this will be our 10th year going down there. Wisconsin just enforced mandatory face masks for all indoors. I was wondering if there was anything different down there to be prepared for. You seem to know it all, so please inform me

I had to google St George island and saw where it was located.

I chuckled and thought of good ole Rushy

SGI is indeed a Florida mailing address but otherwise is 98% Southern Alabama

If you are confident in the social and public responses to COVID19 emanating from Montgomery AL, Jackson MS and such then come on with it

well... yes i do know it all. i thought that was a given on this board?

anyway enough banter. i was just making sure you weren't joking. Its not the biggest place in the world and not many people are aware of it.

very cool of you to go for your 10th year. i would prepare for freedom once you cross the bridge from eastpoint. appalachicola is doing some of the protect things but their stores are so small i am not sure how they can distance anyway. but once on the island there are no restrictions. if you want to go to Pelican its normal seating. masks are optional so you will see some. but thats it.

last visit i stayed at buccaneer. if you walk outside across the street they have a fresh donut stand that opens at 8:00 and goes until they sell out. give it a try and get there at 8:00 so you are not in line.

you see... this is why private coward is who he is.

the island is about 60 miles south of Tallahassee you dumb shit. there is a small 2 lane highway that gets you there and thats it. So if you consider Tallahassee south alabama you are a freakin moron.

I was there once on the beach outside Pelican and Florida State was doing a swimsuit shoot with a bunch of college gals. Wow is all I can say.

I've been many times.
Don't stay at Buccaneer, not even as good as a motel 6 by the sea.
It's a sad dump.

they got hit by a hurricane a couple years so some shops maybe closed from that. but they got very lucky. the cane veered west and wiped out mexico beach. total devastation. i used to drive from eastpoint to panama city so i could go to a worlds gym and get in a good workout so i remember mexico beach it was a good get away. my friend in eastpoint rode out the cane and said they would never do that again. and that was the mild stuff.

bozo! i almost missed this post!

i like buccaneer. the owners and the staff are nice. and you can walk straight to the beach from your room. all the people who had rooms by me were nice and it was a quiet nights sleep. yes the rooms are basic motel 6 stuff but you're not going to get another hotel thats right on the beach they are the only ones. Across the street you can get some nice rooms at some smaller Inns or you can rent a house but they usually like a weeks stay.

i also liked that you could walk straight to Pelican or Harry's. Harry's has some cool live bands on weekends. I have some bar friends there. do you want me to pass along any messages?

We always rent a house for 2 weeks with 10-12 family members. Staying on the Plantation this year way down by the cut so it's a drive back to town. Will venture into Appalachicola as I love the potato salad at the corner diner, brunch at the Owl and sitting outside Oyster City. Will hit Lynns in Eastpointe for the best shrimp salad around. Love sitting at Doc Meyers for oysters and steamed shrimp. My wife is still cautious so we may be grilling a lot at home as long as Dales and Dougs are bringing fresh seafood every day.

Thanks for the replies

wow you are really rockin it! ya the plantation is a bit of a drive but i would imagine you are away from the crowds. that can be good. Owl is fantastic! My mom and her friends went so much they were friends with the owners. I had my moms funeral dinner at the owl. Never a bad dish. I've actually had good lunches at every place in App. The blue hotel on the corner when you get off the bridge is pretty good food. If you love seafood then App and Eastpoint are it. The island restaurants get very crowded for dinner. So I always went over the bridge. Have fun!

Entire town of Apalachicola requires masks. Over half of East Pointe and SGI require masks. Dockside and Blue Parrot just shut down for sit in dining due to Covid to do a deep cleaning. Docs doesn't have raw oysters due to shortage. It's a different year for sure. Been to the Station for lunch twice, outdoor seating and fresh oysters! Been bringing fresh seafood home and cooking here. Hopefully the hurricane doesn't hit next week
